In poly[[μ3-2,2′-(disulfanediyl)dibenzoato-κ5 O:O,O′:O′′,O′′′](1,10-phenanthroline-κ2 N,N′)cadmium(II)], [Cd(C14H8O4S2)(C12H8N2)] n , the asymmetric unit contains one CdII cation, one 2,2′-(disulfanediyl)dibenzoate anion (denoted dtdb2−) and one 1,10-phenanthroline ligand (denoted phen). Each CdII centre is seven-coordinated by five O atoms of bridging/chelating carboxylate groups from three dtdb2− ligands and by two N atoms from one phen ligand, forming a distorted pentagonal–bipyramidal geometry. The CdII cations are bridged by dtdb2− anions to give a two-dimensional (4,4) layer. The layers are stacked to generate a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture via a combination of aromatic C—H...π and π–π interactions. The thermogravimetric and luminescence properties of this compound were also investigated.

The reaction of CoSO4with 2,4-oxydibenzoic acid (H2oba) and 4,4′-bipyridine (bipy) under hydrothermal condition yielded a new one-dimensional cobalt(II) coordination polymer, {[Co(C14H9O5)2(C10H8N2)(H2O)2]·2H2O}n, which was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, magnetic properties and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The CoIIions are connected by bipy ligands into infinite one-dimensional chains. The Hoba−ligands extend out from the two sides of the one-dimensional chain. O—H...O hydrogen bonding extends these chains into a two-dimensional supramolecular architecture.

The title compound, poly[bis{μ2-4,4′-bis[(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl]biphenyl-κ2N4:N4′}bis(nitrato-κO)zinc(II)], [Zn(NO3)2(C18H16N6)2]n, is a two-dimensional zinc coordination polymer constructed from 4,4′-bis[(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl]-1,1′-biphenyl units. It was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The ZnIIcation is located on an inversion centre and is coordinated by two O atoms from two symmetry-related nitrate groups and four N atoms from four symmetry-related 4,4′-bis[(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl]-1,1′-biphenyl ligands, forming a distorted octahedral {ZnN4O2} coordination geometry. The linear 4,4′-bis[(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl]-1,1′-biphenyl ligand links two ZnIIcations, generating two-dimensional layers parallel to the crystallographic (132) plane. The parallel layers are connected by C—H...O, C—H...N, C—H...π and π–π stacking interactions, resulting in a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture.

The synthesis of coordination polymers or metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has attracted considerable interest owing to the interesting structures and potential applications of these compounds. It is still a challenge to predict the exact structures and compositions of the final products. A new one-dimensional coordination polymer,catena-poly[[[bis{1-[(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)methyl]-1H-tetrazole-κN3}zinc(II)]-μ-hexane-1,6-dicarboxylato-κ4O1,O1′:O6,O6′] monohydrate], {[Zn(C6H8O4)(C9H8N6)2]·H2O}n, has been synthesized by the reaction of Zn(Ac)2(Ac is acetate) with 1-[(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)methyl]-1H-tetrazole (bimt) and adipic acid (H2adi) at room temperature. In the polymer, each ZnIIion exhibits an irregular octahedral ZnN2O4coordination geometry and is coordinated by two N atoms from two symmetry-related bimt ligands and four O atoms from two symmetry-related dianionic adipate ligands. ZnIIions are connected by adipate ligands into a one-dimensional chain which runs parallel to thecaxis. The bimt ligands coordinate to the ZnIIions in a monodentate mode on both sides of the main chain. In the crystal, the one-dimensional chains are further connected through N—H...O hydrogen bonds, leading to a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture. In addition, the title polymer exhibits fluorescence, with emissions at 334 and 350 nm in the solid state at room temperature.

A new 2D copper(II) coordination polymer with the doubly deprotonated Schiff base ligand 2- (2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)ethanesulfonic acid (H2Saes) has been synthesized, {[Cu(Saes)(4,4´- bpy)]2·H2O}n (1), and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis. Dinuclear copper complexes serve as secondary building blocks (SBUs) to construct an unusual coordination network with an interpenetrating CdSO4 topology. In the crystal, the components form a stable 3D supramolecular architecture by O-H· · ·O, C-H· · ·O interactions and π stacking.

In the title polymer, [Pb(C9H4O6)]n, the asymmetric unit contains a monomer of a PbIIcation with a doubly deprotonated 3-carboxybenzene-1,2-dicarboxylate dianion (1,2,3-Hbtc2−). Each PbIIcentre is seven-coordinated by seven O atoms of bridging carboxy/carboxylate groups from five 1,2,3-Hbtc2−ligands, forming a distorted pentagonal bipyramid. The PbIIcations are bridged by 1,2,3-Hbtc2−anions, yielding two-dimensional chiral layers. The layers are stacked above each other to generate a three-dimensional supramolecular architectureviaa combination of C—H...O interactions. The thermogravimetric and optical properties are also reported.

In the coordination polymer, poly[[{μ-1-[(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole-κ2N:N′}(μ-5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato-κ2O1:O3)zinc(II)] dimethylformamide monosolvate pentahydrate], {[Zn(C9H4O6)(C11H10N4)]·C3H7NO·5H2O}n, the ZnIIion is coordinated by two N atoms from two symmetry-related 1-[(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole (bmi) ligands and two O atoms from two symmetry-related 5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylate (Hbtc2−) ligands in a slightly distorted tetrahedral geometry. The ZnIIions are bridged by Hbtc2−and bmi ligands, leading to a 4-connected two-dimensional network with the topological notation (44.62). Adjacent layers are further connected by 12 kinds of hydrogen bonds and also by π–π interactions, resulting in a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture in the solid state.
