Nowadays, due to the increasing number of disasters, improving distribution system resiliency is a new challenging issue for researchers. One of the main methods for improving the resiliency in distribution systems is to supply critical loads after disasters during the power outage and before system restorations. In this paper, a “Sustainable and resilient smart house” is introduced for the first time by using plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). PHEVs have the ability to use their fuel for generating electricity in emergency situations as the Vehicle to Grid (V2G) scheme. This ability, besides smart house control management, provides an opportunity for distribution system operators to use their extra energy for supplying a critical load in the system. The proposed control strategy in this paper is dedicated to a short duration power outage, which includes a large percent of the events. Then, improvement of the resiliency of distribution systems is investigated through supplying smart residential customers and injecting extra power to the main grid. A novel formulation is proposed for increasing the injected power of the smart house to the main grid using PHEVs. The effectiveness of the proposed method in increasing power injection during power outages is shown in simulation results.

The use of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) across the world is growing enormously every day. The single-phase bi-directional convertors are presented in this study for HEVs on-board charging(OBC). In HEVs, we use power electronics converters for the converting and inverting operations. Artificial Neural Network(ANN) is presented in this study for simple operation and high optimization approaches. ANN control technique regulates the system's THD and enhances charging system optimization, enables two-way power delivery that is from the grid to vehicle and the vehicle to grid. An ANN based current controller model that achieves fast-dynamic reaction and that improves grid current harmonic characteristics is proposed in this study. The system's THD is reduced by the ANN controller being suggested. The results prove the validity and feasibility of design and control technique of the proposed integrated charging system.

Plug-in-hybrid electric vehicles commonly known as PHEV’s are hybrid electric vehicles that use rechargeable batteries for operation. Since PHEV’s run on electric batteries, they require charging after the charge reaches a certain minimum level. The batteries can be charged using external sources usually a smart grid. This requires a wireless technology that can be used to send the information of the battery charge to the smart grid so that it can be charged. This paper is a detailed description of how this communication can be achieved using the ZigBee wireless technology. The battery level information can be sent to the smart grid using this technology and the smart grid operator can then decide whether the PHEV needs charging or not. If not, the battery can be used to provide Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) services i.e. the charge from the vehicle can be sent back to the grid depending on the will of the vehicle owner. Thus, in this way a system can be developed where in both the PHEV driver and the grid operator can benefit.
