Single crystals of (Cu0.22Mg0.78)BaNd2Mo4O16 have been prepared by crystallization from melts and investigated by X-ray methods. The compound crystallizes monoclinically, space group C62h - C12/c1, Z = 4, a = 5.351(1), b = 12.891(2), c = 19.391(4) Å,β = 90.899(14)° and is isotypic to CuKHo2Mo4O16. The crystal structure is dominated by BaO10 and NdO8 polyhedra forming a three-dimensional polyhedra network, which is filled by axially distorted (Cu,Mg)O6 octahedra and MoO4 tetrahedra.

The quaternary tungstates Li3Ba2RE3(WO4)8 (RE = La-Nd, Sm-Ho) were obtained by a ceramic synthesis route and were characterized by powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structures of Li3Ba2Pr3(WO4)8 and Li3Ba2Tb3(WO4)8 were...

The crystal structure of Bi2Sr2Can-1CunO2n+6+δ compounds with Tc's up to 115 K has been studied extensively. Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+s (Bi2212) with Tc ≈ 90 K has modular layered structures in which Cu and O sheets, typical of all the high Tc superconductors, are separated by layers of alkaline earth cations, and interleaved with Bi2O2 layers. It has been reported that the structures are complicated by incommensurate modulations, cation disorder, layer stacking faults and other nonperiodic behavior which in turn may be related to the superconducting properties. In this work we use high resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM) to investigate the crystal structure, and defect structure of two families of related Bi2212 superconductors. Namely, 1) Bi2Ca3-xRxCu2O8+δ and 2) Bi2Ca3-xRxCu2O8+δ, where R is a rare earth element.
