Abstract The Fe-rich corner of the Ce–Nd–B–Fe quaternary system at 773 K has been experimentally investigated by means of X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques. No quaternary compound was observed in this system. Ce2Fe14B and Nd2Fe14B were found to form the continuous solid solution (Ce,Nd)2Fe14B. Ce-Fe4B4 and NdFe4B4 also form the solid solution (Ce,Nd)-Fe4B4. The isothermal section consists of 8 three-phase regions and 2 four-phase regions.

AbstractChemical compositions of goldfieldite-tetrahedrite series minerals from the Iriki mine in Japan are reported for the frst time. The compositional variations of coexisting goldfieldite [atomic proportion Te > (Sb + As + Bi)], tellurian tetrahedrite [Sb > (Te + As + Bi)], and Te-free tetrahedrite from this locality are considered alongside data from the literature. These show that the substitution of (Sb, As)3+ for Te4+ in natural goldfieldite-tetrahedrite series minerals occurs by the following two mechanisms: (i) tetrahedrite, and goldfieldite, form a continuous solid-solution according to the coupled substitution of Cu+Te4+ for (Cu,Fe,Zn)2+(Sb,As)3+, and (ii) goldfieldite, and the ideal end-member, might also form a continuous solid-solution by the coupled substitution of ☐(vacancy)Te4+ for Cu+(Sb,As)3+. According to this work, the general formulae of tellurian tetrahedrite and goldfieldite are, therefore, respectively, , with x = 0 to 2 and , with y = 0 to 2.

Phase and structural behaviour in the SmAlO3–TbAlO3system has been studied in a whole concentration range by means of laboratory X-ray diffraction,in situhigh temperature synchrotron powder diffraction and differential thermal analysis. Formation of the continuous solid solution Sm1−xTbxAlO3with the orthorhombic perovskite structure (space groupPbnm) has been established. Peculiarity of the investigated system is lattice parameter crossovers resulted in the existence of three regions with different relations of the lattice parameters. Based on the results obtained, as well as an available literature data for the “pure” SmAlO3and TbAlO3, a phase diagram of the pseudo-binary SmAlO3–TbAlO3system has been constructed.
