AbstractIn this paper, size-induced ferroelectricit yweakening, phase transformation, and anomalous lattice expansion are observed in nanocrystalline BaTiO3 (nc-BaTiO3) deriv ed b y low temperature hydrothermal methods, and they are w ellunderstood using the terms of the long-range interaction and its cooperative phenomena altered by particle size in covalen t ionic nanocrystals. In cubic nc-BaTiO3, five modes centerd at 186, 254, 308, 512 and 716 cm-1 are observed Raman active in cubic nanophase, and they are attributed to local rhombohedral distortion breaking inversion-symmetry in cubic nanophase. The254 and 308 cm-1 modes are significantly affected not only by the concentration of hydroxyl defects, but also their particular configuration. And the 806 cm-1 modes found to be closely associated with OH - absorbed on grain boundaries.

Cell failure of polymer electrolytes is rather the result of short circuits instead of assumed electrolyte oxidation. A spacer with a constant and defined distance can avoid this failure, thus realize a benchmark system for a more systematic R&D.

Blue emitting, up-converting NP's of SrTiO3:Tm3+/Yb3+ synthesized using the citric route are biocompatible towards J774.E whereas the cytotoxic effect to U2OS cells is not particle size dependent but most probably is related to Sr2+ ion release.

Two oxides, Y2O3 and Nb2O5, were doped into Bi2O3-based electrolyte in a composition of (Bi 1-x-y,Nb x,Y y)2O 3, where (x+y)=0.12 to 0.2 and the x:y ratio 3:1 to 1:3. The delta-phase retention, the oxygen vacancy order-disorder transformation, the ionic and electric conductivity were investigated by various techniques. The long-term conductivity of the dense electrolytes was determined showing moderate degradation due to phase transformation possible triggered by surface evaporation of Bi-oxide. The best retention of the conductivity is about 60% after 300 hr test.
