Objective : Acyclovir (ACV) is well-known antiviral agent that has absorption problem, mainly due to its poor solubility in water and oral bioavailability. To improve acyclovir physical properties, especially dissolution properties, acyclovirnicotinamide(NCT) cocrystal was formed. Methods : ACV-NCT cocrystal was prepared using slurry method using ethanol as solvent with different concentration. The ACV-NCT cocrystal from each sample groups was characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and then dissolution properties evaluated. Results : Each ACV-NCT cocrystals prepared from slurry method with different ethanol concentrations have different PXRD profile. Dissolution analysis (ED15) showed that ACV-NCT cocrystallization using slurry methods with 10,0 ml/g as ethanol concentration significantly increase ED15 values compared to acyclovir and acyclovir-nicotinamide physical mixture (α=0,05). Conclusion : ACV-NCT cocrystal successfully formed using slurry method with 10,0 ml/g as optimal ethanol concentration.

AbstractBecause of its biodegradable trait, starch has been widely used as the raw material for packaging. Effects of different thermal treatment methods (high temperature-high pressure heating (HH), microwave heating (MH) and alkali heating (AH) with and without glycerol on physical properties of high amylose maize starch films (HASFs) were investigated in this study. HASFs under HH had highest elongation at break (E%), and lowest tensile strength (TS), modulus of elasticity (EM) and opacity (OC). HASFs under MH had highest TS, water holding capacity (WHC) and OC, and lowest thickness (TN), E%, solubility in water (SW) and solubility in oil (SO), while HASFs under AH had highest TN, EM, SW and SO, and lowest WHC. Compared with water, plasticized HASFs with glycerol had higher TN,E%, WHC, SW and OC, and lower TS, EM and SO. XRD results revealed the V-type polymorph and the difference in intensity of diffraction peaks of HASFs under three methods. This study would be helpful to design and prepare HASFs.

Utilization of Johar leaves (Cassia siamea Lamk.) as an herbal remedy requires development into tablet formulation. The selection of binders in the tablet formulation is a strategy for producing quality tablets. Thus, this study aims to formulate Johar leaves extract by using HPMC in various concentrations as the binder (2%, 3%, and 4%) into tablets and evaluate their physical properties. Johar leaves extract is characterized and formulated into tablets in 3 various concentrations of HPMC as the binder. The physical properties of the tablets were evaluated. Johar leaves extract was gum-like, blackish brown, Johar leaves-specific odor, and bitter taste; moisture content, ash content, solubility in water, and solubility in ethanol were 5.2; 2; 11.7; and 38.3%, respectively. The organoleptic evaluation showed the round and flat texture of the tablet, and still experiencing mottling in all formulation; deviation of tablet in all formulas were 11.83; 18.33; and 18.56 mg, respectively; in the uniformity of tablet size showed that the diameter of the tablet were 1.48, 1.51, and 1.48 times of tablet thickness; tablet hardness all formulas were similar, i.e., 20.39 kg.cm-2, and lastly, the disintegration time of formulas were 10, 9, and 12 minutes, respectively. In conclusion, tablets have good physical properties by using various concentrations of HPMC as a binder.

The activity coefficients up to saturation, some conductances and densities, and the solubility in water have been measured for tetramethylammonium bromide and tetramethylammonium iodide. Ion association exists and the ion-pair constants have been calculated by three methods. The standard entropy of the aqueous (CH3)4N+ ion has been calculated.

In order to examine the influence of the alkyl chain length on some physical properties of guanidinium salts, the synthesis of a homologous series of new N″-n-alkylsubstituted N,N-diethyl-N′ ,N′- di-n-propyl-N″-n-hexyl guanidinium ionic liquids (gILs), containing chloride (Cl), tetrafluoroborate (BF4), acesulfamate (Ace), saccharinate (Sac), and tosylate (Tos) as anions, is reported. Cn-gILAce, Cn-gILSac, and Cn-gILBF4 were obtained by ion exchange reaction of the corresponding hexasubstituted guanidinium chlorides (Cn-gCl, n = 3, 4, 6, 8, 10), which were synthesized by a quaternization reaction of the pentaalkyl-substituted guanidine 3 and the corresponding alkylchloride in DMF. The tosylates gILs Cn-gTos (n = 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) were synthesized by alkylation of 3 with the corresponding alkyltosylates. Some physical properties, such as solubility in water and organic solvents, refractive index and density, are considered as a function of the length of the n-alkyl substituent R and the nature of the anion

The Ap stars are numerous - the photometric systems tool It would be very tedious to review in detail all that which is in the literature concerning the photometry of the Ap stars. In my opinion it is necessary to examine the problem of the photometric properties of the Ap stars by considering first of all the possibility of deriving some physical properties for the Ap stars, or of detecting new ones. My talk today is prepared in this spirit. The classification by means of photoelectric photometric systems is at the present time very well established for many systems, such as UBV, uvbyβ, Vilnius, Geneva and DDO systems. Details and methods of classification can be found in Golay (1974) or in the proceedings of the Albany Colloquium edited by Philip and Hayes (1975).

The bullet-shaped viruses are currently classified together on the basis of similarities in virion morphology and physical properties. Biologically and ecologically the member viruses are extremely diverse. In searching for further bases for making comparisons of these agents, the nature of host cell infection, both in vivo and in cultured cells, has been explored by thin-section electron microscopy.
