Based on DFBLD (Distributed Feedback Laser Diode) and harmonic detection technique, a novel fiber-optic methane detection system is constructed. The system can be applied to broad-range concentration detection of methane. Based on the approximation express of the law of Beer-Lambert, detection of methane with various concentration from 0% to 20% is completed using subtraction of background and ratio processing method, as the atmosphere surroundings are treated as background noise. The direct absorption spectra for various concentration is measured using GRIN gas cell, combined with DFBLD. The R5 line of the 2v3 band of methane is selected as the absorption peak. The system is tested online during gas mixing process and the linear relationship between system indication and concentration variation is validated. Also the stability and dynamic response characteristics are confirmed by the experiments. The sensitivity of the system can be adjusted according to the concentration level of various field environments by changing the prism distance using step motor. In the range of 0% to 20% the sensitivity of methane detection can arrive at 0.001%. So the system can be applied to various application fields and adopted as monitoring instruments for coalmine tunnel and natural pipeline.

At pH 7 and with the excitation at wavelengths above 315 nm, previously unreported fluorescence of 5-HT (5-hydroxytryptamine) is observed. Two fluorescence bands were observed for 5-HT; the first emits at around 390 nm with an associated lifetime near 1 ns, and the other (well known) emits at 340 nm with an associated lifetime of 2.7 ns. With both static and time-resolved fluorescences, the spectral and temporal effects of the excitation wavelength were studied between 285 and 340 nm. With these basic spectroscopic properties as a starting point, a fiber-optic chemical sensor (FOCS) was developed in order to measure 5-HT with a single-fiber configuration, nitrogen laser excitation, and fast digitizing techniques. Temporal effects including fluorescence of the optical fiber were studied and compared with measurements both directly in cuvette and through the fiber-optic sensor. Less than thirty seconds are required for each measurement. A detection limit of 5-HT is reached in the range of 5 μM. Our system, with an improved sensitivity, could therefore be a possible and convenient “tool” for in vivo determination of 5-HT.

The analysis of the values of the concentrations of the formed nitrogen oxides and the temperatures of the jet plume under various conditions of mixture formation is carried out. The plots of the distribution of torch temperatures and concentrations of nitric oxide in the calculated area for oxidizer temperatures of 20, 60, 100, 150, and 200 ° C were obtained and analyzed. Mathematical modeling of the gaseous fuel combustion process was carried out using the FlowVision software package. An analysis of the results showed that a decrease in the temperature of the air supplied as an oxidizing agent leads to a significant decrease in the concentration of nitrogen oxides in flue gases, while not significantly affecting the change in the flame temperature. The research results can be used to solve the problems of optimizing boiler plants, in order to reduce harmful flue gas emissions. Further modeling is planned to determine the dependence of the influence of various factors on the degree of formation of nitrogen oxides in the flue gases of boiler plants.
