It appears that in the original excavations of the Little Woods site Czajkowski found skeletons in the middens at different points. The following is taken from his article in the Louisiana Conservation Review:Most of the burials on the shell ridge were solitary and no funeral furniture or artifacts were found with them, with two exceptions: (1) On March 20th, two skeletons were found in a semi-flexed, east-west position. The following day, five more skeletons were uncovered, making a total of seven, all lying in the same position, parallel to each other about four feet apart, at a depth of about five feet …(2) On June 1st at a depth of six feet, a single skull impaled on a tree stump was found. Underneath the skull was a single fragment of decorated pottery.Burial Ground: Seven skeletons found on March 20th, 950 feet northwest from the location. Adults, in fairly good condition; all skulls crushed except one…. Six in semi-flexed position on their backs … (the illustration to which Czajkowski here refers shows a fully flexed skeleton). All lying parallel in an east-west position with their heads west. The seventh at full length on its face. They were lying at a depth of about four feet from the surface and overlain with a shell bed from two to twelve inches in thickness. The distance between the skeletons was from three to four feet (Czajkowski, 1934, pp. 14-15).

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARg) is a member of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily and has been shown in vitro to regulate genes involved in lipid metabolism and adipocyte differentiation. By Northern analysis, we and other researchers have shown that expression of this receptor predominates in adipose tissue in adult mice, and appears first in whole-embryo mRNA at 13.5 days postconception. In situ hybridization was used to find out in which developing tissues PPARg is specifically expressed.Digoxigenin-labeled riboprobes were generated using the Genius™ 4 RNA Labeling Kit from Boehringer Mannheim. Full length PPAR gamma, obtained by PCR from mouse liver cDNA, was inserted into pBluescript SK and used as template for the transcription reaction. Probes of average size 200 base pairs were made by partial alkaline hydrolysis of the full length transcripts. The in situ hybridization assays were performed as described previously with some modifications. Frozen sections (10 μm thick) of day 18 mouse embryos were cut, fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and acetylated with 0.25% acetic anhydride in 1.0M triethanolamine buffer. The sections were incubated for 2 hours at room temperature in pre-hybridization buffer, and were then hybridized with a probe concentration of 200μg per ml at 70° C, overnight in a humidified chamber. Following stringent washes in SSC buffers, the immunological detection steps were performed at room temperature. The alkaline phosphatase labeled, anti-digoxigenin antibody and detection buffers were purchased from Boehringer Mannheim. The sections were treated with a blocking buffer for one hour and incubated with antibody solution at a 1:5000 dilution for 2 hours, both at room temperature. Colored precipitate was formed by exposure to the alkaline phosphatase substrate nitrobluetetrazoliumchloride/ bromo-chloroindlylphosphate.

The studies reported here focus on similarities and dissimilarities between the terminal value hierarchies ( Rokeach, 1973 ) ascribed to different groups ( Schwartz & Struch, 1990 ). In Study 1, n = 65 East Germans and n = 110 West Germans mutually assess the respective ingroup and outgroup. In this intra-German comparison the West Germans, with a mean intraindividual correlation of rho = 0.609, perceive a significantly greater East-West similarity between the group-related value hierarchies than the East Germans, with a mean rho = 0.400. Study 2 gives East German subjects either a Swiss (n = 58) or Polish (n = 59) frame of reference in the comparison between the categories German and East German. Whereas the Swiss frame of reference should arouse a need for uniqueness, the Polish frame of reference should arouse a need for similarity. In accordance with expectations, the Swiss frame of reference significantly reduces the correlative similarity between German and East German from a mean rho = 0.703 in a control group (n = 59) to a mean rho = 0.518 in the experimental group. Contrary to expectations, the Polish frame of reference does not lead to an increase in perceived similarity (mean rho = 0.712).

Total colonic aganglionosis (TCA) extended to the ileum is seen quite rare among infants with Hirschsprung's disease. Type and timing of definitive surgery in these patients are controversial. This report was presented to discuss the management of two siblings with TCA. Case 1: A two-day-old girl was operated for partial intestinal obstruction. During laparotomy, serial frozen biopsies proved TCA extended to the terminal ileum and a loop ileostomy was performed. At five months of age, a modified Duhamel-Martin procedure without protective ileostomy was performed. An endo-GIA stapler was transanally used for colo-ileal anastomosis. She is doing well for the last five years. Case 2: A one-day-old boy admitted to the hospital with similar findings to his sister. Frozen biopsies during first laparotomy proved that majority of ileum and entire colon was aganglionic and a proximal ileostomy was performed. At 10 months of age, he underwent a similar Duhamel-Martin operation. He is in a good condition for the last four years. Conclusion: In infants, our modification on Duhamel-Martin procedure, which is based on the use of an endo-GIA stapler transanally for colo-ileal anastomosis without protective ileostomy, may be utilized as an alternative method in the definitive treatment of patients with TCA.

SummaryTissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) is a feed back inhibitor of the initial activation of the extrinsic pathway of coagulation. In humans, injection of heparin results in a 2-6 fold increase in plasma TFPI and recent studies suggest that TFPI may be important for the anticoagulant activity of heparin. Full length (FL) TFPI, but not recombinant two-domain (2D) TFPI, has a poly cationic C-terminus showing very strong heparin binding. Therefore, we have investigated if heparin affects the pharmacokinetics of TFPI with and without this C-terminus.FL-TFPI (608 U/kg) and 2D-TFPI (337 U/kg) were injected intravenously in rabbits with and without simultaneous intravenous injections of low molecular weight heparin (450 anti-XaU/kg).Heparin decreased the volume of distribution and the clearance of FL-TFPI by a factor 10-15, whereas the pharmacokinetics of 2D-TFPI were unaffected by heparin. When heparin was administered 2 h following TFPI the recovery of FL-TFPI was similar to that found in the group receiving the two compounds simultaneously, suggesting that the releasable pool of FL-TFPI is removed very slowly in the absence of circulating heparin.

The financial statements serve as a benchmark in assessing the financial performance of the company as the basis for making business decisions. The motivation in conducting this research is to support previous research to see the development condition of one of the oil palm plantation companies. The purpose of this study is to assess the financial performance by using financial ratio analysis and horizontal analysis. The method used in this research is Quantitative Descriptive with analysis design using Term series Analysis. The result of the research based on financial ratio analysis shows the liquidity ratio and solvency ratio in good condition, while the activity ratio and profitability ratio are not good because it is below the industry average of similar companies. Based on horizontal analysis, financial performance fluctuated and influenced internal and external factors such as operational performance and the average price of world palm oil. The limitations of this study are using only two analytical tools and financial statements analyzed only the balance sheet and income statement.
