The nonverbal display of confidence is strongly associated with leadership and power. However, its importance for the persuasiveness of campaign messages has not been explored. How important is showing confidence for a political candidate’s ratings? How does confidence condition the effect of the quality of a candidate’s arguments? This article addresses these questions using an innovative experimental approach that makes it possible to better isolate the impact of the candidate’s nonverbal confidence and the quality of his message. While both of these aspects influence voters’ perceptions of the candidate’s electability and qualifications, the nonverbal dimension matters more when it comes to electability. This research contributes to the study of nonverbal communication in elections by expanding the focus of inquiry beyond the effect of pure emotions (happiness or anger) and facial traits.

Background: Thorax MSCT examination is a diagnostic imaging that is capable of displaying both normal and pathological lung and respiratory organs. MSCT examination also has a better level of sensitivity and specificity compared to other modalities, but the radiation exposure given is very high, so the radiation dose given to patients is high. The reduction in radiation dose is very important because of the direct exposure to sensitive tissue. One method of reducing radiation dose is by reducing the tube voltage. However, the decrease in tube voltage causes a decrease in image quality as indicated by increased noise and decreased CNR. To maintain the quality of the image at low tube voltage setting, an IR reconstruction of SAFIRE was used. The purpose of this research is to know the impact of using SAFIRE on dose radiation and image quality of thorax MSCT.Methods: This study was an experimental study with a quasi-experimental study design. The object used was the N-1 Lungman chest phantom in which an artificial tumor was attached. Radiation dose assessment used CTDI value, while image quality assessment used noise and CNR. Data processing was conducted using linear regression test.Results: There was an effect of tube voltage setting and SAFIRE setting on radiation dose and image quality.Conclusions: Tube voltage ssetting and SAFIRE setting had an effect on radiation dose and image quality. Tube voltage setting and SAFIRE strength level setting that were able to provide optimal radiation dose and image quality were tube voltage of 80 kVp and SAFIRE strength levels 3 and 4 (S3 and S4).

The innovative hybrid impact hydroforming (IHF) technology is a kind of high energy forming technique which can be used for forming complex parts with small features, such as convex tables, bars etc. which are widely employed in automotive and aircraft industries. The impact hydroforming technology means the most features are formed by hydroforming and the small features are rapidly reshaped by high intensity impact energy in a very short time after the traditional hydroforming. The impact pressure rises to the peak in 10ms which belongs to dynamic loading. The present work investigates IHF using a numerical /experimental approach. Finite element simulations using MSC.Patran were carried out changing the geometrical shape of liquid hammer.. Using this shock wave loading condition we did forming experiments. During forming process, stress distribution in the blank is comparatively better as compared with traditional methods so possibility of fracture is reduced. Inertia is also an important factor which affects control quality. Therefore, the research is very useful for improving forming quality of complicated products. It will be widely applied in automotive and aircraft industries.

The main specificity of the modern translation market is the translation of large volumes of technical texts and business documents in the shortest time possible. The purpose of the study is to conduct an experiment on the impact of machine translation systems (in terms of using term bases) on the efficiency of future translators. The study provides a literature review on the problem under study and presents the advantages of computer-assisted translation tools in translation practice. Based on the experimental study, the analysis of the influence of computer-assisted translation tools on the quality of written translations of student translators was carried out.

Clients engage consultant quantity surveyors or cost engineers to perform project cost estimates before calling for tender submissions. This experimental study examines the impact of releasing the clients’ pre-tender cost estimates prior to bidding on student subjects’ bidding behavioural patterns, and the extents to which their bidding tends to agree with the behavioural patterns proposed by Milgrom and Weber’s theory. The results show that the provision of clients’ pre-tender cost estimates prior to bidding does affect bidders’ bidding behaviour. Bidders with access to the clients’ pre-tender cost estimates prior to bidding, on average, recorded lower bids than those with no access to the estimate. However, the lower average bids do not result in statistically significant lower winning bids. These findings provide evidence in support of Milgrom and Weber’s theory, demonstrating the practicality of an experimental approach using student subjects for testing theories in building economics research. The practical implication is that construction clients would need to consider their information policy on releasing pre-tender cost estimates to enhance efficiency in their procurement for construction services.

In this article we investigate the role of semantic relations in grammatical alternations. The specific alternation we look at is that between the proper name modifier construction, e.g.the Obama government, and the determiner genitive, e.g.Obama's government. Through the use of an experimental study in which participants were asked to rate the naturalness of the two constructions in 20 attested natural language contexts and provide paraphrases of the semantic relations in question, we tested when the two constructions alternate and whether either construction expresses semantic relations that block alternation. Our initial finding is that none of the relations we studied is categorically associated with only one of the constructions, but that certain relations – notably possession and name – are far more preferentially associated with determiner genitives and proper name modifiers respectively. Despite these ‘default’ associations, participants nevertheless identified a range of possible interpretations for many of the examples, meaning that our study simultaneously supports the opposing theoretical views of default relations and semantic underspecification. Further, our study validates the inclusion of semantic relations in genitive alternation studies as a major factor despite the notorious difficulties in their operationalisation. Animacy distinctions, although more straightforward to codify, appear to be of lesser importance. Methodologically, our study shows the value of an experimental approach as a corrective to researcher intuitions about the identification of semantic relations in context.

The article analyzes the impact of environmental determinants on spelling in learners at the preparatory elementary school. It shows how spelling in learners can be influenced by environmental factors causing dysorthographia. The aim of the study is to analyze the effect of the social environment on students' written productions by showing more specifically that orthographic distortions depend to a large extent on the quality of the social environment. The survey is being carried out in preparation for primary school (CP1) in three departments of Côte d'Ivoire. Evaluations are proposed to process data from the chi-square. The quantitative method is preferred and the experimental approach makes it possible to conclude that disadvantaged environments favor dysorthographia more in learners.
