AbstractLet ρ be a monotone quasinorm defined on ${\rm {\frak M}}^ + $, the set of all non-negative measurable functions on [0, ∞). Let T be a monotone quasilinear operator on ${\rm {\frak M}}^ + $. We show that the following inequality restricted on the cone of λ-quasiconcave functions $$\rho (Tf) \les C_1\left( {\int_0^\infty {f^p} v} \right)^{1/p},$$where $1\les p\les \infty $ and v is a weighted function, is equivalent to slightly different inequalities considered for all non-negative measurable functions. The case 0 < p < 1 is also studied for quasinorms and operators with additional properties. These results in turn enable us to establish necessary and sufficient conditions on the weights (u, v, w) for which the three weighted Hardy-type inequality $$\left( {\int_0^\infty {{\left( {\int_0^x f u} \right)}^q} w(x){\rm d}x} \right)^{1/q} \les C_1\left( {\int_0^\infty {f^p} v} \right)^{1/p},$$holds for all λ-quasiconcave functions and all 0 < p, q ⩽ ∞.

AbstractIn this paper, we establish some necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of a generalized dynamic Hardy-type inequality with higher-order derivatives with two different weighted functions on time scales. The corresponding continuous and discrete cases are captured when $\mathbb{T=R}$ T = R and $\mathbb{T=N}$ T = N , respectively. Finally, some applications to our main result are added to conclude some continuous results known in the literature and some other discrete results which are essentially new.

Let Ω be an open connected cone in ℝn with vertex at the origin. Assume that the Operatoris subcritical in Ω, where δΩ is the distance function to the boundary of Ω and μ ⩽ 1/4. We show that under some smoothness assumption on Ω the improved Hardy-type inequalityholds true, and the Hardy-weight λ(μ)|x|–2 is optimal in a certain definite sense. The constant λ(μ) > 0 is given explicitly.

We extend and simplify several classical results on weighted norm inequalities for classical operators acting on rearrangement invariant spaces using the theory of indices. As an application we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized Hardy type operators to be bounded on?p(w),?p,8(w),Gp(w)andGp,8(w).

Using the compactness of an imbedding for weighted Sobolev spaces (that is, a Hardy-type inequality), it is shown how the assumption of monotonicity can be weakened still guaranteeing the pseudo-monotonicity of certain nonlinear degenerated or singular elliptic differential operators. The result extends analogous assertions for elliptic operators.

Let $G$ be a topological group, let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}$ be a continuous endomorphism of $G$ and let $H$ be a closed $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}$-invariant subgroup of $G$. We study whether the topological entropy is an additive invariant, that is, $$\begin{eqnarray}h_{\text{top}}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D719})=h_{\text{top}}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}\restriction _{H})+h_{\text{top}}(\bar{\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}}),\end{eqnarray}$$ where $\bar{\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}}:G/H\rightarrow G/H$ is the map induced by $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}$. We concentrate on the case when $G$ is totally disconnected locally compact and $H$ is either compact or normal. Under these hypotheses, we show that the above additivity property holds true whenever $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}H=H$ and $\ker (\unicode[STIX]{x1D719})\leq H$. As an application, we give a dynamical interpretation of the scale $s(\unicode[STIX]{x1D719})$ by showing that $\log s(\unicode[STIX]{x1D719})$ is the topological entropy of a suitable map induced by $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}$. Finally, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the equality $\log s(\unicode[STIX]{x1D719})=h_{\text{top}}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D719})$ to hold.

AbstractThis paper is devoted to the study of the homogeneous Dirichlet problem for a singular nonlinear equation which involves the p(·)-biharmonic operator and a Hardy-type term that depend on the solution and with a parameter λ. By using a variational approach and min-max argument based on Ljusternik-Schnirelmann theory on C1-manifolds [13], we prove that the considered problem admits at least one nondecreasing sequence of positive eigencurves with a characterization of the principal curve μ1(λ) and also show that, the smallest curve μ1(λ) is positive for all 0 ≤ λ < CH, with CH is the optimal constant of Hardy type inequality.

AbstractLet ℝ denote the real line. Let {Tt}tєℝ be a measure preserving ergodic flow on a non atomic finite measure space (X, ℱ, μ). A nonnegative function φ on ℝ is called a weight function if ∫ℝ φ(t)dt = 1. Consider the weighted ergodic averagesof a function f X —> ℝ, where {θk} is a sequence of weight functions. Some sufficient and some necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the a.e. convergence of Akf, in particular for a special case in whichwhere φ is a fixed weight function and {(ak, rk)} is a sequence of pairs of real numbers such that rk > 0 for all k. These conditions are obtained by a combination of the methods of Bellow-Jones-Rosenblatt, developed to deal with moving ergodic averages, and the methods of Broise-Déniel-Derriennic, developed to deal with unbounded weight functions.

AbstractLet 𝔾 be a step-two nilpotent group of H-type with Lie algebra 𝔊 = V ⊕ t. We define a class of vector fields X = {Xj} on 𝔾 depending on a real parameter k ≥ 1, and we consider the corresponding p-Laplacian operator Lp,ku = divX(|∇Xu|p−2∇Xu). For k = 1 the vector fields X = {Xj} are the left invariant vector fields corresponding to an orthonormal basis of V; for 𝔾 being the Heisenberg group the vector fields are the Greiner fields. In this paper we obtain the fundamental solution for the operator Lp,k and as an application, we get a Hardy type inequality associated with X.
