AbstractWe prove existence and multiplicity of solutions for the problem$$\left\{ {\matrix{ {\Delta ^2u + \lambda \Delta u = \vert u \vert ^{2*-2u},{\rm in }\Omega ,} \hfill \hfill \hfill \hfill \cr {u,-\Delta u > 0,\quad {\rm in}\;\Omega ,\quad u = \Delta u = 0,\quad {\rm on}\;\partial \Omega ,} \cr } } \right.$$where$\Omega \subset {\open R}^N$,$N \ges 5$, is a bounded regular domain,$\lambda >0$and$2^*=2N/(N-4)$is the critical Sobolev exponent for the embedding of$W^{2,2}(\Omega )$into the Lebesgue spaces.

In this paper we study some fourth order elliptic equation involving the critical Sobolev exponent, related to the prescription of a fourth order conformal invariant on the standard sphere. We use a topological method to prove the existence of at least a solution when the function to be prescribed is close to a constant and a finite dimensional map associated to it has non-zero degree

In this paper, we study the decomposition of the Nehari manifold by exploiting the combination of concave and convex nonlinearities. The result is subsequently used, in conjunction with the Ljusternik–Schnirelmann category and variational methods, to prove the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for an indefinite elliptic problem involving a critical Sobolev exponent.

In this paper, we consider the following Kirchhoff-type problems involving critical exponent −a+b∫Ω∇u2dxΔu+Vxu=μu2∗−1+λgx,u, x∈Ωu>0, x∈Ωu=0, x∈∂Ω. The existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for Kirchhoff-type equations with a nonlinearity in the critical growth are studied under some suitable assumptions on Vx and gx,u. By using the mountain pass theorem and Brézis–Lieb lemma, the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions are obtained.

AbstractWe consider the critical p-Laplacian system\left\{\begin{aligned} &\displaystyle{-}\Delta_{p}u-\frac{\lambda a}{p}\lvert u% \rvert^{a-2}u\lvert v\rvert^{b}=\mu_{1}\lvert u\rvert^{p^{\ast}-2}u+\frac{% \alpha\gamma}{p^{\ast}}\lvert u\rvert^{\alpha-2}u\lvert v\rvert^{\beta},&&% \displaystyle x\in\Omega,\\ &\displaystyle{-}\Delta_{p}v-\frac{\lambda b}{p}\lvert u\rvert^{a}\lvert v% \rvert^{b-2}v=\mu_{2}\lvert v\rvert^{p^{\ast}-2}v+\frac{\beta\gamma}{p^{\ast}}% \lvert u\rvert^{\alpha}\lvert v\rvert^{\beta-2}v,&&\displaystyle x\in\Omega,\\ &\displaystyle u,v\text{ in }D_{0}^{1,p}(\Omega),\end{aligned}\right.where {\Delta_{p}u:=\operatorname{div}(\lvert\nabla u\rvert^{p-2}\nabla u)} is the p-Laplacian operator defined onD^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}^{N}):=\bigl{\{}u\in L^{p^{\ast}}(\mathbb{R}^{N}):\lvert% \nabla u\rvert\in L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{N})\bigr{\}},endowed with the norm {{\lVert u\rVert_{D^{1,p}}:=(\int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}\lvert\nabla u\rvert^{p}\,dx% )^{\frac{1}{p}}}}, {N\geq 3}, {1<p<N}, {\lambda,\mu_{1},\mu_{2}\geq 0}, {\gamma\neq 0}, {a,b,\alpha,\beta>1} satisfy {a+b=p}, {\alpha+\beta=p^{\ast}:=\frac{Np}{N-p}}, the critical Sobolev exponent, Ω is {\mathbb{R}^{N}} or a bounded domain in {\mathbb{R}^{N}} and {D_{0}^{1,p}(\Omega)} is the closure of {C_{0}^{\infty}(\Omega)} in {D^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}^{N})}. Under suitable assumptions, we establish the existence and nonexistence of a positive least energy solution of this system. We also consider the existence and multiplicity of the nontrivial nonnegative solutions.

We study the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for the following nonlinear Schrödinger–Poisson equations: where 2 < p ≤ 3 or 4 ≤ p < 6, λ > 0 and Q ∈ C(ℝ3). We show that the number of positive solutions is dependent on the profile of Q(x).

AbstractWe are concerned with the existence of positive weak solutions, as well as the existence of bound states (i.e. solutions inW1,p(ℝN)), for quasilinear scalar field equations of the form$$ - \Delta _pu + V(x) \vert u \vert ^{p - 2}u = K(x) \vert u \vert ^{q - 2}u + \vert u \vert ^{p^ * - 2}u,\qquad x \in {\open R}^N,$$where Δpu: =div(|∇u|p−2∇u), 1 <p<N,p*: =Np/(N−p) is the critical Sobolev exponent,q∈ (p, p*), whileV(·) andK(·) are non-negative continuous potentials that may decay to zero as |x| → ∞ but are free from any integrability or symmetry assumptions.

By looking for critical points of functionals defined in some subspaces of , invariant under some subgroups of O (N), we prove the existence of many positive non-radial solutions for the following semilinear elliptic problem involving critical Sobolev exponent on an annulus, where 2* − 1 := (N + 2)/(N − 2) (N ≥ 4), the domain is an annulus and f : R+ × R+ → R is a C1 function, which is a subcritical perturbation.
