Transporting patients with communicable diseases is common in critical care transport operations. At Ornge, Ontario's critical care transport provider, 13.7% of patients required contact, droplet, or airborne precautions during transport in 2019–2020. Ensuring that staff are protected while transporting patients with communicable diseases must remain a prime directive for medical transport administrators and operators. Success in safety requires a robust system of hazard identification and adherence to generally accepted methods of hazard control. This commentary will discuss some of the administrative and engineering controls, as well as the personal protective equipment (PPE) strategies deployed at Ornge.

Health and safety risk assessment of PT Unido Pasifik Fabrication department to create a safe and efficient and productive work environment. The fabrication department is the main pillar of company support. The purpose of this study was to analyze the potential hazards in the Production department especially the PT Unindo Pasifik Fabrication Department. In addition this study aims to determine the relationship of knowledge of workers about the potential danger with the behavior of the use of personal protective equipment. This research is an observational descriptive study in which the object of research is the machine, attitude or behavior of the workforce, work processes and work environment. Based on hazard identification, risk assessment and control, there are several hazards and risks that occur with tolerable risk, moderate risk and sustainable risk criteria. Hazard control has been carried out at PT. Unindo Pasifik that is administrative control and the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE). And while the Objective, Target and Program (OTP) are set namely reducing work accidents and reducing occupational diseases in the Fabrication department. Didalam penilaian risiko kesehatan dan keselamatan departemen Fabrikasi PT Unido Pasifik untuk menciptakan lingkugan kerja aman dan efisien serta produktif. Departemen fabrikasi merupakan penopang kegitaan perusahaan yang utama. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis potensi bahaya di bagian Produksi khususnya Departemen Fabrikasi PT Unindo Pasifik. Selain itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan pengetahuan pekerja tentang potensi bahaya dengan perilaku penggunaan alat pelindung diri. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif observasional dimana Objek penelitian adalah mesin, sikap atau perilaku tenaga kerja, proses kerja dan lingkungan kerja. Berdasarkan identifikasi bahaya, penilaian dan pengendalan risiko terdapat beberapa bahaya dan risiko yang terjadi dengan kriteria tolerable risk, moderate risk dan sustainable risk. Pengendalian bahaya sudah dilakukan di PT. Unindo Pasifik yaitu pengendalian bersifat administrative & penyediaan alat pelindung diri (APD). Dan sedangkan Objective, Target dan Program (OTP) yang ditetapkan yaitu mengurangi kecelakaan kerja dan diharapkan dapat mengurangi penyakit yang ditimbulkan akibat kerja di deprtemen fabrikasi tersebut.

Abstract Objectives To explore the mechanisms of collaboration between the stakeholders, including National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) and the Non-Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Program (NCDCP) at the national, regional, and local (health facility) levels of the health care system in Ghana. This is one of the objectives in a study on the “Barriers and Facilitators to the Implementation of the Collaborative Framework for the Care and Control of Tuberculosis and Diabetes in Ghana” Results The data analysis revealed 4 key themes. These were (1) Increased support for communicable diseases (CDs) compared to stagnant support for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), (2) Donor support, (3) Poor collaboration between NTP and NCDCP, and (4) Low Tuberculosis-Diabetes Mellitus (TB-DM) case detection.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate the quality tool’s impact on the effectiveness of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)-based food safety system and correlation studies between HACCP effectiveness and business performance in food and pharmaceutical industries. Design/methodology/approach A total of 116 survey responses of prominent food and pharmaceutical firms are used to fulfil the aim of this study. The principal component analysis (PCA) method was applied to classify quality tools into a finite number of groups. Further, multiple regression methods are employed to investigate the correlation between HACCP effectiveness and firm’s performance indicators. Findings Quality tools are classified into three categories on the basis of their application by using the PCA method: quality tools for hazard identification, quality tools for hazard analysis (QTHA) and quality tools for hazard control. The regression analysis revealed that QTHA has a substantial impact on HACCP objectives (hazard identification, hazard assessment and hazard control). Additionally, the results suggest that the successful implementation of HACCP-based food safety system also delivers a direct influence on the operational and financial performance of the food and pharmaceutical industries. Originality/value This paper contributes to the existing body of HACCP knowledge by providing a framework supported by an empirical case study. The case study clustered quality tools into three broad categories related to their application of a HACCP project. Study results can guide and motivate managers to use quality tools with the aim of successful implantation of the HACCP-based food safety system, especially in food and pharmaceutical industries.

BackgroundCommunicable diseases are a major concern during complex humanitarian emergencies (CHEs). Descriptions of risk factors for outbreaks are often non-specific and not easily generalisable to similar situations. This review attempts to capture relevant evidence and explore whether it is possible to better generalise the role of risk factors and risk factor cascades these factors may form.MethodsA systematic search of the key databases and websites was conducted. Search terms included terms for CHEs (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs definition) and terms for communicable diseases. Due to the types of evidence found, a thematic synthesis was conducted.Results26 articles met inclusion criteria. Key risk factors include crowded conditions, forced displacement, poor quality shelter, poor water, sanitation and hygiene, lack of healthcare facilities and lack of adequate surveillance. Most identified risk factors do not relate to specific diseases, or are specific to a group of diseases such as diarrhoeal diseases and not to a particular disease within that group. Risk factors are often listed in general terms but are poorly evidenced, not contextualised and not considered with respect to interaction effects in individual publications. The high level of the inter-relatedness of risk factors became evident, demonstrating risk factor cascades that are triggered by individual risk factors or clusters of risk factors.ConclusionsCHEs pose a significant threat to public health. More rigorous research on the risk of disease outbreaks in CHEs is needed, from a practitioner and from an academic point of view.

Non-Communicable disease has already been the main cause of death in many countries, as many as 57 million death in the world in 2008, 36 million (63 percent) is because of un-infectious disease, specifically heart illness, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases. Prevention and controlling efforts of un-infectious diseases developing in Indonesia is non-communicable disease integrated development post (Pospindu PTM). This research used combination method approach with exploratory design. Exploratory design with sequential procedure used combination consecutively, the first is qualitative and the second is quantitative method. Public Health Center formed Posbindu PTM has not disseminate yet to all stakeholders. Posbindu PTM members felt benefit by following this activity. Some of them did not know follow the activity because of unknown about it. There was  connection between coming behavior to Posbindu PTM to preventing behavior of non-communicable disease.Percentage for high blood pressure risk indicated 20-25 percent from all visitors. Formulation of its policy implementation started with stakeholder analysis; head of sub district, head of urban village, head of health department in regency/city, head of public health service, head of neighborhood Association, and the head of family welfare development.  Analysis of perception, power and authority found that every stakeholder had authority to manage the member directly or indirectly. It was not implemented because of the lack knowledge of stakeholders about the Posbindu PTM function.They would play a role after knowing the aim and advantage of the post by motivate the people to do early detection, prevention and control the non-communicable disease. The members were given wide knowledge about  early detection, preventing  and control the un-infectious disease, measuring and checking up their healthy continuously so that keep feeling the advantage of coming to the post.

Abstract Background One of the effective strategies to prevent and control Non- communicable diseases risk factors is to identify priorities and problems of Non-communicable programs. this study was conducted to identify the challenges of non-communicable diseases programs in order to improve programs development. Methods This study was a qualitative study which was carried out in 5 universities of medical sciences and the Ministry of Health in 2019 year. The sampling method was purposive and the participants include specialists in the field of NCD who have executive and research experience in this field. Data were collected through 40 individual interviews with health professionals and care providers. Data were analyzed by content analysis using CIPP model. Results In the present study, problems of non-communicable disease programs were identified in 4 main categories, 12 sub-categories including inadequate participation of all levels of service delivery in program development, needs assessment, budget allocation, data and program evaluation system. Conclusions Some problems of non-communicable diseases programs included inadequacy of needs assessment, lack of prioritization based on local and regional conditions, program evaluation system. Paying attention to the mentioned points will help to solve underlying problems and improve the processes of developing, implementing and evaluating programs.

UNSTRUCTURED Communicable diseases including COVID-19 pose a major threat to public health worldwide. To curb the spread of communicable diseases effectively, timely surveillance and prediction of the risk of pandemics are essential. The aim of this study is to analyze free and publicly available data to construct useful travel data records for network statistics other than common descriptive statistics. This study describes analytical findings of time-series plots and spatial-temporal maps to illustrate or visualize pandemic connectedness. We analyzed data retrieved from the web-based Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation dashboard, which contains up-to-date and comprehensive meta-information on civil flights from 193 national governments in accordance with the airport, country, city, latitude, and the longitude of flight origin and the destination. We used the database to visualize pandemic connectedness through the workflow of travel data collection, network construction, data aggregation, travel statistics calculation, and visualization with time-series plots and spatial-temporal maps. We observed similar patterns in the time-series plots of worldwide daily flights from January to early-March of 2019 and 2020. A sharp reduction in the number of daily flights recorded in mid-March 2020 was likely related to large-scale air travel restrictions owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The levels of connectedness between places are strong indicators of the risk of a pandemic. Since the initial reports of COVID-19 cases worldwide, a high network density and reciprocity in early-March 2020 served as early signals of the COVID-19 pandemic and were associated with the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in mid-March 2020. The spatial-temporal map of connectedness in Europe on March 13, 2020, shows the highest level of connectedness among European countries, which reflected severe outbreaks of COVID-19 in late March and early April of 2020. As a quality control measure, we used the aggregated numbers of international flights from April to October 2020 to compare the number of international flights officially reported by the International Civil Aviation Organization with the data collected from the Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation dashboard, and we observed high consistency between the 2 data sets. The flexible design of the database provides users access to network connectedness at different periods, places, and spatial levels through various network statistics calculation methods in accordance with their needs. The analysis can facilitate early recognition of the risk of a current communicable disease pandemic and newly emerging communicable diseases in the future.
