The intermittence and uncertainty of wind power and photovoltaic power have hindered the large-scale development of both. Therefore, it is very necessary to properly configure energy storage devices in the wind-solar complementary power grid. For the hybrid energy storage system composed of storage battery and supercapacitor, the optimization model of hybrid energy storage capacity is established with the minimum comprehensive cost as the objective function and the energy saving and charging state as the constraints. A simulated annealing artificial fish school algorithm with memory function is proposed to solve the model. The results show that the hybrid energy storage system can greatly save costs and improve system economy.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed for unsteady periodic breathing conditions, using large-scale models of the human lung airway. The computational domain included fully coupled representations of the orotracheal region and large conducting zone up to generation four (G4) obtained from patient-specific CT data, and the small conducting zone (to G16) obtained from a stochastically generated airway tree with statistically realistic geometrical characteristics. A reduced-order geometry was used, in which several airway branches in each generation were truncated, and only select flow paths were retained to G16. The inlet and outlet flow boundaries corresponded to the oronasal opening (superior), the inlet/outlet planes in terminal bronchioles (distal), and the unresolved airway boundaries arising from the truncation procedure (intermediate). The cyclic flow was specified according to the predicted ventilation patterns for a healthy adult male at three different activity levels, supplied by the whole-body modeling software HumMod. The CFD simulations were performed using Ansys FLUENT. The mass flow distribution at the distal boundaries was prescribed using a previously documented methodology, in which the percentage of the total flow for each boundary was first determined from a steady-state simulation with an applied flow rate equal to the average during the inhalation phase of the breathing cycle. The distal pressure boundary conditions for the steady-state simulation were set using a stochastic coupling procedure to ensure physiologically realistic flow conditions. The results show that: 1) physiologically realistic flow is obtained in the model, in terms of cyclic mass conservation and approximately uniform pressure distribution in the distal airways; 2) the predicted alveolar pressure is in good agreement with previously documented values; and 3) the use of reduced-order geometry modeling allows accurate and efficient simulation of large-scale breathing lung flow, provided care is taken to use a physiologically realistic geometry and to properly address the unsteady boundary conditions.

A methodology to attain the highest fundamental natural frequency of a printed wiring board by rearranging its components has been developed. A general two-dimensional rearrangement algorithm is developed by which the rearrangement of the component-lead-board (CLB) assemblies is performed automatically for any combination of equal size, unequal size, movable and immovable CLBs. This algorithm is also capable of incorporating two design restrictions: fixed (immovable) components and prohibited (non-swappable) areas. A highly computationally efficient objective function for the evaluation of the automatic rearrangement process is introduced, which is a linear function of the size of the individual CLBs that have been selected for each interchange. The simulated annealing method is adapted to solve the combinatorial rearrangement of the CLBs. Using 61 combinations of boundary conditions, equal and unequal sized CLBs, movable and immovable CLBs, various CLB groupings and sets of material properties, it is found that, when compared to the exact solution obtained by an exhaustive search method, the simulated annealing method obtained the highest fundamental natural frequency within 1 percent for 87 percent of the cases considered, within 0.5 percent for 72 percent of the cases and the true maximum in 43 percent of them. To further increase the fundamental natural frequency the introduction of a single interior point support is analyzed. Depending on the boundary conditions an additional increase in the maximum fundamental natural frequency of 44 to 198 percent can be obtained.

Abstract. Understanding the exchange processes between the atmospheric boundary layer and the free troposphere is crucial for estimating hemispheric transport of air pollution. Most studies of hemispheric air pollution transport have taken a large-scale perspective using global chemical transport models with fairly coarse spatial and temporal resolutions. In support of United Nations Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (TF HTAP; www.htap.org), this study employs two high-resolution atmospheric chemistry models (WRF-Chem and CMAQ; 36×36 km) driven with chemical boundary conditions from a global model (MOZART; 1.9×1.9°) to examine the role of fine-scale transport and chemistry processes in controlling pollution export and import over the Asian continent in spring (March 2001). Our analysis indicates the importance of rapid venting through deep convection that develops along the leading edge of frontal system convergence bands, which are not adequately resolved in either of two global models compared with TRACE-P aircraft observations during a frontal event. Both regional model simulations and observations show that frontal outflows of CO, O3 and PAN can extend to the upper troposphere (6–9 km). Pollution plumes in the global MOZART model are typically diluted and insufficiently lofted to higher altitudes where they can undergo more efficient transport in stronger winds. We use sensitivity simulations that perturb chemical boundary conditions in the CMAQ regional model to estimate that the O3 production over East Asia (EA) driven by PAN decomposition contributes 20% of the spatial averaged total O3 response to European (EU) emission perturbations in March, and occasionally contributes approximately 50% of the total O3 response in subsiding plumes at mountain observatories (at approximately 2 km altitude). The response to decomposing PAN of EU origin is strongly affected by the O3 formation chemical regimes, which vary with the model chemical mechanism and NOx/VOC emissions. Our high-resolution models demonstrate a large spatial variability (by up to a factor of 6) in the response of local O3 to 20% reductions in EU anthropogenic O3 precursor emissions. The response in the highly populated Asian megacities is 40–50% lower in our high-resolution models than the global model, suggesting that the source-receptor relationships inferred from the global coarse-resolution models likely overestimate health impacts associated with intercontinental O3 transport. Our results highlight the important roles of rapid convective transport, orographic forcing, urban photochemistry and heterogeneous boundary layer processes in controlling intercontinental transport; these processes may not be well resolved in the large-scale models.

In this paper, the structural safety of the Niuwan Bridge subjected to vessel collision is investigated by the large-scale commercial finite element software ANSYS. A whole FEM model is built and a reasonable analysis and illustration for taking the value of vessel-collision forces is presented. Additionally, under the premise of reasonable simulation of the boundary conditions, the effects of the support abutments, the prestress and the carloads are considered. The analysis results have certain reference values for the anti-collision and reinforcement of bridges.
