A Matlab based computer program was developed which gives the possibility to calculate the diffraction elastic constants (DEC) of macroscopically isotropic, single phase materials from their single crystal elastic constants. The proper function of the program was confirmed by means of results from literature. In almost all cases the results from the program DECcalc could reproduce the values and diagrams given in the appropriate publications. Discrepancies could always be assigned to the use of different single crystal coefficients.

It is shown that the replacement of a part of sulfur atoms with selenium atoms in a TlInS2 single crystal stimulates the formation of a single-phase state with a monoclinic structure (space group [Formula: see text]/[Formula: see text] in TlInS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]). Irradiation with 2 MeV electrons and a fluence of [Formula: see text] electron/cm2 of powder TlInS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) leads to an increase in the crystallite size from 56.5 nm to 65 nm, which is most likely associated with a decrease in the interface. The difference between the surface morphology of the synthesized TlInS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) single crystal and the surface morphology of the TlInS2 single crystal is established, which consists in a decrease in the height and width of the roughness in TlInS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]). Irradiation of a TlInS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) single crystal with electrons with a fluence of [Formula: see text] electron/cm2 does not lead to a change in the height of the tubercle on its surface, and the average value of its width increases more than ten-fold. The identity of the peaks in the Raman spectra of the TlInS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) single crystal before and after its irradiation with electrons with an energy of 2 MeV and upto a fluence of [Formula: see text] electron/cm2, along with the absence of a shift of the peaks, indicates the radiation resistance of the TlInS[Formula: see text]Se[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) single crystal.

ABSTRACTThe evaporation and epitaxial growth on single crystal CaF2 substrates of CaF2/SrF2 mixtures are investigated. The evaporated films are studied with X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy.X-ray diffraction results show that the evaporation of yCaF2 + (1 - y)SrF2 mixtures from a single boat, with y in the range 0 to 1, result in single phase, mixed crystals of composition CaxSr1−xF2. If Vegard's law is assumed to apply it is found experimentally that the film composition is the same as that of the source. For the evaporation of CaF2 and SrF2 onto cleaved CaF2 crystals it is shown that the best quality epitaxial films are obtained at substrate temperatures of∼400°C. At temperatures <400°C there is some broadening of the X-ray diffraction spots from the overlayer compared with those from the substrate. At temperatures>400°C there is a tendency for the epitaxial films to delaminate from the substrate.

ααΑαNd3+ 0.5% Doped Single Crystal LiCaAlF6 Scintillator Was Grown by the Micro-Pulling down (µ-PD) Method. Powder X-Ray Diffraction Analysis Was Done and the Grown Crystal Was a Single Phase LiCaAlF6. it Was Cut and Polished to the Physical Dimension of 1 × 2 × 7 mm3. in Transmittance Spectrum, Nd3+ 5d-4f Absorption Observed at 175 Nm and the Transmittance Became 80% at Wavelength Longer than 180 Nm. Excited by 160 Nm, Nd3+ 5d-4f Emission Appeared at 180 Nm. X-Ray Induced Radio-Luminescence Spectrum Showed the Similar Feature with the Photoluminescence One. when Coupled with PMT and Irradiated by 241Am α-Ray, the Absolute Light Yield Resulted 100 Ph/5.5 Mev α.

The new manganese phosphate hydrate,Mn6(PO4)4·H2O, has been obtained as a single phase product using hydrothermal methods and the structure has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cc with a = 934.18(10), b = 1743.68(18), c = 815.15(8) pm, β = 92.616(2)°, V = 1326.4(2)·106 pm3, Z = 4, and the refinement led to R1 = 0.0281 and Rw2 = 0.0728 (all data). The structure is composed of [PO4] and [MnOx] polyhedra (x = 6, 7) and might be described as a distorted primitive hexagonal packing of [PO4] tetrahedra which are held together by Mn2+ ions partially located in distorted trigonal prismatic positions. This leads to a dense three-dimensional framework structure. Magnetic susceptibility measurements verified the presence of high-spin Mn2+ ions and thermogravimetric data confirm the chemical composition deduced from the single crystal structure determination.
