RESUMENA partir de la investigación-creación “Flaubert 20 rutas” (el registro en video de diferentes intervenciones en el transporte público de Bogotá) se pone de manifiesto cómo los buses se pueden convertir en un escenario móvil para el teatro espontáneo. Este contexto da lugar a las reflexiones de una actriz, adaptadas de textos de Gustave Flaubert que tratan de la urbanidad y convivencia social en lo que él llama la buena sociedad. Se establece la identificación de un espacio escénico habitado cotidianamente por pasajeros que al mismo tiempo son personajes reconocibles del entorno urbano. Desde la óptica de una videograbadora se observa que es el propio público el que decide entrar en el juego, asumiendo y reconociendo el rol de espect-actor (Boal) de circunstancias cotidianas. In modern urban conditions with intensive industrial production affecting the life and health of people, the authorities of many cities have thought about holding activities aimed at improving the ecological component of the urban environment. One of such activities may be the creation or improvement of the ecological framework of the city. This article discusses the features of the ecological framework in the industrial city of Tobolsk. A number of tasks that are faced by the City Administration were formulated; those must be solved using sound reconstruction methods of urban territorial and functional structures. The role of the ecological framework of the urban area is considered as the possibility of avoiding the environmental problems’ emergence and preserving the ability of the territorial system as an independent land and property complex to develop.

The role of urban forestry has become increasingly important in the context of sustainability, both from an environmental context, and from a developmental context. Greenery in an urban environment has demonstrable implications for health, air quality, aesthetics, and land value, as described broadly across the literature. Until recently, studies on green urban canopies and housing prices have been limited in their methodology by using aerial-perspective data. The MIT Senseable City Lab in 2015 developed the Treepedia project, which uses Google Street View images to quantify greenery levels in urban environments. Using the green view index (GVI) data from the Treepedia project, street-level greenery densities were compared against housing prices across Toronto. Models for different property types, accounting for characteristic, locational, and demographic variables, were estimated. It was determined that a statistically significant relationship between street-level greenery and housing prices exists in Toronto for detached homes, semi-detached homes, row/townhouse units, condo apartments, and condo townhouses.

The role of the marketplace in a city changes from decade to decade. They lose their significance or followings clients’ demands they expand their range of services, creating a unique character and brand. These are places of culture-creating potential, not only of fulfilling basic shopping needs. Six marketplaces of distinct character and impact on the community have been analyzed in order to present their development potential as well as occurring problems. The challenge for many marketplaces, especially smaller ones and those in small towns is the effective development strategy, taking into account current social expectations and consumer trends. When left without a clear vision of the future they often succumb to the competition. On the other hand, when properly developed and transformed they influence the identity of a district or city increasing its multi-functionality. Marketplaces may play a significant role in social integration processes and revitalization of the urban environment in the post-Covid-19 city of tomorrow.

It is known that the urban environment amplifies the effects of climate change, sometimes with disastrous consequences that put people at risk. These aspects can be affected by urban vegetation and planting design but, while there are thousands of papers related to the effects of climate change, a relatively limited number of them are directly aimed at investigating the role of vegetation as a mitigating factor in the urban context. This paper focuses on reviewing the research on the role of urban vegetation in alleviating the adverse conditions of the urban environment in order to provide some practical guidelines to be applied by city planners. Through an analysis of the documents found in Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using urban vegetation and climate change-related keywords we selected five major issues related to the urban environment: (1) particulate matter, (2) gaseous pollution, (3) noise pollution, (4) water runoff, (5) urban heat island effect. The analysis of existing knowledge reported here indicates that the roles of urban vegetation on the adverse effect of climate change could not be simply deemed positive or negative, because the role of urban green is also strongly linked to the structure, composition, and distribution of vegetation, as well as to the criteria used for management. Therefore, it could help to better understand the roles of urban green as a complex system and provide the foundation for future studies.

Research often finds a positive relationship between public transportation investment and gentrification in nearby neighborhoods. This dynamic is particularly important in urban contexts that plan for transit-oriented development and creating future “walkability.” In this study, I demonstrate a link between transit investment and changing neighborhood racial and ethnic composition, using a case study of the recent light-rail project in Seattle, Washington. Descriptive analyses and difference-in-difference models suggest that affected neighborhoods in Seattle experienced rising shares of non-Hispanic Whites following the start of light-rail construction, while neighborhoods at the suburban periphery of the line saw substantial growth in racial and ethnic diversity. These findings highlight the role of transit infrastructure in restructuring demographic trajectories of nearby neighborhoods and contribute evidence about shifting patterns of residential segregation in the area around the transit line.
