wind power is the most effective form of wind energy utilization, modern large-scale wind turbine with horizontal axis wind mainly. Horizontal axis wind turbine aerodynamic performance calculation of the wind turbine aerodynamics research hot spot, is a wind turbine aerodynamic optimization design and calculation of critical load. Horizontal axis wind turbine airfoil aerodynamic performance of the wind turbine operation characteristics and life plays a decisive role". Using Fluent software on the horizontal axis wind turbine numerical simulation, analysis of the United States of America S809NREL airfoil aerodynamic characteristics of different angles of attack numerical simulation, analyzes the different angles of attack in the vicinity of the pressure, velocity distribution. By solving the two-dimensional unsteady, compressible N-S equations for the calculation of wind turbine airfoil S809used the characteristics of flow around. N-S equation in body-fitted coordinate system is given, with the Poisson equation method to generate the C grid.

Gulf and South African countries have enormous potential for wind energy. However, the emergence of sand storms in this region postulates performance and reliability challenges on wind turbines. This study investigates the effects of debris flow on wind turbine blade performance. In this paper, two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and the transition SST turbulence model are used to analyze the aerodynamic performance of NACA 63415 airfoil under clean and sandy conditions. The numerical simulation of the airfoil under clean surface condition is performed at Reynolds number 460×103, and the numerical results have a good consistency with the experimental data. The Discrete Phase Model has been used to investigate the role sand particles play in the aerodynamic performance degradation. The pressure and lift coefficients of the airfoil have been computed under different sand particles flow rates. The performance of the airfoil under different angle of attacks has been studied. Results showed that the blade lift coefficient can deteriorate by 28% in conditions relevant to the Gulf and South African countries sand storms. As a result, the numerical simulation method has been verified to be economically available for accurate estimation of the sand particles effect on the wind turbine blades.

Numerical investigation of large thick and low Reynolds airfoil of wind turbines by mounting indented Gurney flaps was carried out. The influenced rules of the position of Gurney flaps on the aerodynamic performance of airfoil under same height of flaps were achieved, and the optimal position of Gurney flap was presented. At last, the mechanism of wind turbine performance controlled by Gurney flap was discussed. The results can provide the theoretical guidance and technical support to wind turbines control in practical engineering.

The aerodynamic performance and the bypass flow field of a vertical axis wind turbine under self-starting are investigated using CFD simulations in this paper. The influence of pitch angle variations on the performance of the wind turbine during self-starting is presented. A two-dimensional model of the wind turbine with three blades is employed. A commercial software FlowVision is employed in this paper, which uses dynamic Cartesian grid. The SST turbulence model is used for turbulence modeling, which assumes the flow full turbulent. Based on the comparison between the computed time-dependent variations of the rotation speed with the experimental data, the time-dependent variations of the torque are presented. The characteristics of self-starting of the wind turbine are analyzed with the pitch angle of 0o、-2oand 2o. The influence of pitch angle variations on two-dimensional unsteady viscous flow field through velocity contours is discussed in detail.
