This paper presents a method to automatically extract function knowledge from natural language text. Our method uses syntactic rules to extract subject-verb-object triplets from parsed text. We then leverage the Functional Basis taxonomy, WordNet, and word2vec to classify the triplets as artifact-function-energy flow knowledge. For evaluation, we compare the function definitions associated with 30 most frequent artifacts compiled in a human-constructed knowledge base, Oregon State University’s Design Repository (DR), to those extracted using our method from 4953 Wikipedia pages classified under the category “Machines”. Our method found function definitions for 66% of the test artifacts. For those artifacts found, our method identified 50% of the function definitions compiled in DR. In addition, 75% of the most frequent function definitions found by our method were also defined in DR. The results demonstrate the promising potential of our method in automatic extraction of function knowledge.

This research looks at the complexity inherent in the causal relation and the implications for its representation in a Terminological Knowledge Base (TKB). Supported by a more general study of semantic relation hierarchies, a hierarchical refinement of the causal relation is proposed. It results from a manual search of a corpus which shows that it efficiently captures and formalizes variations expressed in text. The feasibility of determining such categorization during automatic extraction from corpora is also explored. Conceptual graphs are used as a representation formalism to which we have added certainty information to capture the degree of certainty surrounding the interaction between two terms involved in a causal relation.

Introduction. The article deals with adjusting the parameter settings of a combine harvester working bodies. For adjustment of complex hierarchical multilevel systems, the intellectual methods based on fuzzy expert information are used. The incoming quantitative, qualitative and evaluation information is analyzed when adjusting the combine harvester. The different types of uncertainty in considering semantic spaces of external environment factors and regulated parameters of the machine cause the application of logical and linguistic approach and mathematical apparatus of fuzzy logic for determining the optimal initial settings. The complex system of interrelations between parameters, indicators of quality of harvest, and factors of external environment causes the necessity to adjust the parameters of combine working elements in the process of harvesting. This function is performed by the correction unit in the intelligent decision support system. In the present article, the questions of creating a knowledge base for correcting adjustment parameters in cases when there are deviations of values of harvesting quality indicators from normative values are considered in detail. Materials and Methods. Interrelations between performance indicators and regulated parameters are established by empirical rules obtained through the collection and analysis of expert information. To optimize the mechanism of intellectual information system output and reduce the time of decision making, there is a necessity to establish the relevance of used knowledge base rules. To solve this problem, theoretical and game approaches are used, concepts of the matrix of performance indicators and the matrix of risks of making an inefficient decision are used. Results. An example of choosing a strategy of searching for an adequate response to the fault of the harvesting indices in the form of “losses of feeble grain with chaff” has been given. The choice of fault response strategies on the basis of Laplace criterion, expectedvalue criterion, and Savage test used for decision-making in “games with nature” has been considered. The method of the decision-making process in the problem under consideration with the application of the mentioned criteria were illustrated, the analysis of the obtained results was carried out. Discussion and Conclusion. The suggested approach substantially increases performance of the unit of intelligent system updating. It allows structuring the expert knowledge base and establishing an optimal sequence of application of production rules; this provides efficiency of the updating process of the adjustable harvester parameters and also reduces the time for decision-making. This approach can be used while solving the problems of updating technological adjustments in different technical systems and devices.

Introduction. The paper considers problems of creating information support for solving the task of assessing the maturity level of an organization. It is proposed to use intelligent information systems, i.e. expert systems. Substantive aspects of various stages of creating such systems are briefly described; the expert system architecture, which is based on using a fuzzy expert knowledge base, is given. The work objective was to create new software to solve the problem of assessing the maturity level of an organization. Materials and Methods. Previously performed modeling of the subject domain under consideration allowed us to create a knowledge base in the form of production memory, which is the basis of the fuzzy inference mechanism. The software is written in PHP and is suitable for embedding in complex web applications. The software system is a web application written primarily in PHP and JavaScript. The software works in all modern web browsers, which accelerates significantly the implementation and deployment based on both the parent-enterprise and its subsidiaries.Results. New software has been created to automate the processing of questionnaires during the organization’s selfassessment based on key indicators, as well as considering 6 main groups of the quality management system indicators. Application of the program will significantly speed up the process of input and processing of expert information required for self-assessment. The program provides organizations to get an adequate idea of the opportunities and prospects for improving the organization’s quality management system. Some fragments of the software system interface are given. Discussion and Conclusions. The proposed software can be used to determine the level of maturity of an organization. The application of Web-technologies improves usability, reduces software support costs. The software can be both deployed in the existing network infrastructure of a customer and used by all the functionality through connecting to a remote server. The software is optimized for various screen resolutions, which allows you to use it not only at the central office, but also when analyzing the quality management system of corporate customers. The traffic generated by the web application is optimized for working with mobile devices with a low-speed Internet connection. Application of the program will significantly reduce the time for users to enter and process expert information required for the problem solving and to eliminate duplication of information.
