This case study details an investigation to gain greater insight about the intellectual distinctions that prevail within the academic environment at Crestline College, a pseudonym for an eastern institution of higher learning, in support of the significance of a liberal arts education. While many graduates of Crestline report satisfaction with their academic experience, many alumni volunteers have felt more work could be done to explain the exact nature of what makes Crestline strong academically, articulating the practical value of a liberal arts education. Developing a compelling argument for a strong vision for academics would help reinforce the value and importance of a liberal arts education, given the challenges facing the liberal arts amidst a changing economy and national disinvestment in humanities and related areas. The case study found that alumni and current students felt Crestline was distinguished because of a committed faculty, its intimate learning setting, its engaged student body, and the emphasis of critical thinking across the curriculum. Based on these findings, the study provides a set of recommendations for Crestline and other liberal arts institutions to consider as they continue to engage with their alumni in today’s integrated, globalized society, with questions persisting about the future of liberal arts education and its value to society. Further study is recommended to gain greater insight on preparation for careers and how people are applying their education within career tracks.

One of the great challenges facing Christian higher education is the role and impact of student behavior codes in furthering institutional values and inculcating those values in the students served by such institutions. The perspectives of administrators, faculty members, and students regarding the rationale for codes of conduct at their institution are examined. To obtain data, administrators, faculty members, and students at two Christian liberal arts institutions completed questionnaires and participated in follow-up interviews based on individual responses to the questionnaire. The views of all three groups are described as they see behavior codes relating to institutional purpose and the development and implementation of such codes.

The mission of the liberal arts institution is to educate the whole student; this parallels the aims of student affairs administration. How does this mission affect what student affairs professionals employed at these institutions do? For this study, researchers examined the nature of work for student affairs administrators at liberal arts institutions. Results revealed that professional life can be conceptualized through three themes: the manner in which work is conducted, work habits in relation to students, and the work environment.

The objective of this article is to facilitate mobile teaching and learning by providing an alternative course material deployment method. This article suggests a course material deployment platform for small universities or individual instructors. Different from traditional course material deployment methods, the method discussed deploys course materials by using services provided by Android Market. After comparing the traditional course material deployment and the alternative deployment, the author presents strategies to take advantage of Android Market in delivering course materials to mobile devices. Through a case study, this article illustrates the application of these strategies in deploying a class menu for an object-oriented programming course in the computer science curriculum.
