Abstract The paper presents results of investigation on synthesis and characterization of cerium-dysprosium oxide. The input powders - dysprosium oxide Dy2O3 and cerium oxide CeO2 - were mixed so as to obtain equimolar ratio of cations, milled in alcohol and synthesized via solid state reaction process at 1350°C under 15MPa in vacuum for 2h. The microstructure, phase composition and thermal properties were analyzed. The obtained material was multiphase. Non-stoichiometric compounds were identified. Thermal diffusivity of investigated material decreased in the temperature range of 25-1000°C from 0,71 to 0,45 mm2/s.

Synthesis and characterization of a novel hexabenzocoronene (HBC) derivative attached with four alkyl swallow-tailed chains and two sulfur-containing chains are described. The designed peripheral decoration with dove tails as solubilizer and sulfur-containing groups as functionalizer is expected to improve the solubility of molecules, change the columnar spacing stacks and make for its orientation on matrix surface. Its UV−vis absorption spectra appeared in 350-400 nm region as same as typical that of this kind of compounds. The thermal properties as discotic liquid crystal and its orientation on matrix are being studied.

A range of optically active pyrrole monomers have been synthesized in which a chiral sub- stituent is covalently bonded either to the pyrrole N or C3 ring position, namely (–)-(1R)-4-methyl-N-(1-phenylethyl)pyrrole-3-carboxamide, (+)-(1S)-4-methyl-N-(1-phenylethyl)pyrrole-3-carboxamide, (–)-(1R)-4-methyl-N-(1-naphthylethyl)pyrrole-3-carboxamide, (+)-(1S)-4-methyl-N-(1-naphthylethyl)pyrrole-3-carboxamide, (+)-(2S)-2-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)propionic acid, (+)-(1S)-N-(1-phenyl-ethyl)pyrrole, and (–)-(1R)-N-(1-phenylethyl)pyrrole. Their chiroptical properties have been established by circular dichroism spectroscopy. Electropolymerization of the three N-substituted pyrrole monomers provided films of chiral conducting polymers, whose electrical and spectroscopic properties are described. Although oxidation of the C3 substituted pyrrole monomers was also facile, electrodeposition was poor and films of the associated polymers could not be obtained.
