The α-MnO2 spherical assemblies were prepared via a facile hydrothermal approach in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The assembled nanostructures were composed of the MnO2 nanorods with 150–200 nm in width and several micrometers in length. The products were characterized by SEM, TEM and XRD. The electrochemical characterization was carried out by cyclic voltammetry, which indicated that the α-MnO2 spherical assemblies were of an excellent electrode material for supercapacitor.

Treatment of Ru(acac)3 with 2-cyano-pyridine and 3,5-dimethyl-pyridine in the presence of zinc dust as reducing agent in refluxing THF afforded the ruthenium(II) complexes cis-[RuII(acac)2(2- CN-py)2] (1) and cis-[RuII(acac)2(3,5-Me2-py)2] (2), respectively. Interaction of Ru(acac)3 with 3- Me-pyridine and 3,5-Me2-pyridine in the presence of Br2 in refluxing THF gave the ruthenium(III) complexes [RuIII(acac)Br2(3-Me-py)2] (3) and [RuIII(acac)Br2(3,5-Me2-py)2] (4), respectively. The four complexes have been spectroscopically and electrochemically characterized, and their crystal and molecular structures have been established by X-ray crystallography

Two new dithiolene ligand precursors, containing fused TTF and alkyl thiophenic moieties 3,3'-{[2-(5-(tert-butyl)thieno[2,3-d][1,3]dithiol-2-ylidene)-1,3-dithiole-4,5-diyl]bis[sulfanediyl]}dipropanenitrile (α-tbtdt, 1), and 3,3'-{[2-(5-methylthieno[2,3-d][1,3]dithiol-2-ylidene)-1,3-dithiole-4,5-diyl]bis[sulfanediyl]}dipropanenitrile (α-mtdt, 2), were synthesized and characterized. The electrochemical properties of these electronic donors were studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in dichloromethane. Both compounds show two quasi-reversible oxidation processes, versus Ag/AgCl, typical of TTF donors at E 1 1/2 = 279 V and E 2 1/2 = 680 V for 1 and E 1 1/2 = 304 V and E 2 1/2 = 716 V in the case of 2. The single-crystal X-ray structure of 1 and of a charge transfer salt of 2, (α-mtdt)[Au(mnt)2] (3), are reported.

Two new copper(II) complexes, [Cu2(3-bpfp)(2,6-PDA)2(H2O)2] (1) and [Cu(4-bpfp)0:5 (glu)]·H2O (2), have been hydrothermally synthesized by self-assembly of isomeric bis(pyridylformyl)piperazine ligands [3-bpfp=bis(3-pyridylformyl)piperazine, 4-bpfp=bis(4- pyridylformyl)piperazine], rigid pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (2,6-H2PDA) or flexible glutaric acid (H2glu), and copper(II) chloride. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that two adjacent CuII ions are connected by the 3-bpfp ligand to build a dinuclear unit in complex 1, in which 2,6-PDA serves as a terminal chelating ligand. Adjacent dinuclear units are further linked by hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions to form a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular network. Complex 2 is a 3D coordination polymeric framework based on a layer polymer [Cu(glu)]n and bridging 4-bpfp ligands with 6-connected (44.610.8) topology. In 1 and 2, the ligands 3-bpfp and 4-bpfp adopt a μ2-bridging coordination mode (via ligation of pyridyl nitrogen atoms). The thermal stability and the electrochemical properties of the title complexes have been studied.
