A novel series of trivalent coordination complexes was synthesized by the reaction between a chloride/ acetate salt of iron, chromium, cobalt or manganese ions and NNNNOO type persuasive Schiff base ligand synthesized from 2,3-dioxobutane, ethane-1,2-diamine and 4-chloro-2-formylphenol. Synthesized compounds were characterized by using elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment, IR, UV-visible, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and ESI-MS spectral analyses. IR and NMR spectra favoured hexadentate coordination behaviour of ligand. Electronic spectra and magnetic moment data reveal Oh geometry with distortion around the metal ion in complexes. The molar conductance values show 1:1 electrolytic nature of complexes. Biological potentiality of the ligand and its metal complexes were tested in vitro against two bacterial and two fungal strains; Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Aspirgillus niger, Aspirgillus flavus, respectively.

Four metal complexes of Co(II), Pb(II),  Ni(II) and Fe(II) ions with a Schiff base derived from (3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-benzaldehyde with leucine) have been synthesized and characterized using several physical techniques, in particular; molar conductance measurements, colour, melting point,  infrared and electronic spectra. The molar conductance values reveal a non-electrolytic nature. The infrared spectral data display the coordination behaviour of the Schiff base toward Co(ll) ,pb(ll) ,Ni(ll) and Fe(ll) ions. The electronic absorption spectra of the Schiff base and its complexes show π→π* (phenyl ring) and, n→π* (HC=N) and the expected geometrical structure for the prepared complexes. The Schiff base and its complexes were tested for antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria; Staphylococcus aurous; E. Coli and Klebsiella, in addition Rizopus as fungal. The effect of the Schiff base leucine complex on bacteria was recorded only against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

A hexadentate Schiff base tripodal ligand is synthesized by the condensation of tris (2-aminoethyl) amine with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques like UV-VIS, IR, NMR, MASS, and elemental analysis. The solution studies by potentiometric and spectrophotometric methods are done at 25 ± 1°C,µ=0.1 M KCl, to calculate the protonation constants of the ligand and formation constants of metal complexes formed by the ligand with Fe(III), Al(III), and Cr(III) metal ions. The affinity of the ligand towards Fe(III) is compared with deferiprone (a drug applied for iron intoxication) and transferrin (the main Fe(III) binding protein in plasma). Structural analysis of the ligand and the metal complexes was done using semiempirical PM6 method. Electronic and IR spectra are calculated by semiempirical methods and compared with experimental one.

A pentadentate Schiff-base ligand 3,5Cl-L2− and NCSe− form a iron(iii) mononuclear complex [Fe(3,5Cl-L)(NCSe)], which shows a thermally induced spin crossover with a broad hysteresis width of 24 K between 123 K (warming) and 99 K (cooling).
