Supposing quark–diquark structure of baryons, we look for systematics of baryons composed of light quarks (q = u, d). We systematize baryons using the notion of two diquarks: (i) axial–vector state, [Formula: see text], with the spin SD = 1 and isospin ID = 1 and (ii) scalar one, [Formula: see text], with the spin SD = 0 and isospin ID = 0. We consider several schemes for the composed baryons: (1) with different diquark masses, [Formula: see text], (2) with [Formula: see text] and overlapping [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] states (resonances), (3) with/without SU(6) constraints for low-lying states (with quark–diquark orbital momenta L = 0). In the high-mass region, the model predicts several baryon resonances at M ~ 2.0–2.9 GeV . Moreover, the model gives us the double pole structure (i.e. two poles with the same Re M but different Im M) in many amplitudes at masses M ≳ 2.0 GeV . We see also that for description of low-lying baryons (with L = 0), the SU(6) constraint is needed.

Enhanced Ion Transport in an Ether Aided Super Concentrated Ionic Liquid Electrolyte for Long-Life Practical Lithium Metal Battery Applications

We explore a novel ether aided superconcentrated ionic liquid electrolyte; a combination of ionic liquid, <i>N</i>-propyl-<i>N</i>-methylpyrrolidinium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (C<sub>3</sub>mpyrFSI) and ether solvent, <i>1,2</i> dimethoxy ethane (DME) with 3.2 mol/kg LiFSI salt, which offers an alternative ion-transport mechanism and improves the overall fluidity of the electrolyte. The molecular dynamics (MD) study reveals that the coordination environment of lithium in the ether aided ionic liquid system offers a coexistence of both the ether DME and FSI anion simultaneously and the absence of ‘free’, uncoordinated DME solvent. These structures lead to very fast kinetics and improved current density for lithium deposition-dissolution processes. Hence the electrolyte is used in a lithium metal battery against a high mass loading (~12 mg/cm<sup>2</sup>) LFP cathode which was cycled at a relatively high current rate of 1mA/cm<sup>2</sup> for 350 cycles without capacity fading and offered an overall coulombic efficiency of >99.8 %. Additionally, the rate performance demonstrated that this electrolyte is capable of passing current density as high as 7mA/cm<sup>2</sup> without any electrolytic decomposition and offers a superior capacity retention. We have also demonstrated an ‘anode free’ LFP-Cu cell which was cycled over 50 cycles and achieved an average coulombic efficiency of 98.74%. The coordination chemistry and (electro)chemical understanding as well as the excellent cycling stability collectively leads toward a breakthrough in realizing the practical applicability of this ether aided ionic liquid electrolytes in lithium metal battery applications, while delivering high energy density in a prototype cell.

Effects of Rotating Blade Wakes on Separation and Pressure Recovery in Turbine Exhaust Diffusers

Highly efficient turbine exhaust diffusers can only be designed by taking into account the unsteady interactions with the last rotating row of the turbine. Therefore, a scale model of a typical gas turbine exhaust diffuser consisting of an annular and a conical diffuser is investigated experimentally. To investigate the influence of rotating wakes, a variable-speed rotating spoke wheel with cylindrical spokes as well as with NACA bladed spokes generates high-energy turbulent wakes simulating turbine rotor wakes. For the rotor with the NACA blades, the drive of the wheel is run in motor as well as in generator mode. Additional measurements in a reference configuration without a spoke wheel allow the detailed analysis of changes in the flow pattern. 3-hole pneumatic probes, static pressure taps, as well as a 2D-Laser-Doppler-Velocimeter (LDV) are used to investigate velocity profiles and turbulent characteristics. Without the wakes generated by a spoke wheel, the annular diffuser (with a 20° half cone opening angle) separates at the shroud for all swirl configurations. Increasing the swirl results in increasing pressure recovery at the shroud whereas the hub boundary is destabilized. For a non-rotating spoke rotor and low swirl numbers, the 20° annular diffuser separates at the shroud. Increasing the swirl number, a strong deceleration of the axial velocity at the shroud is generated without separation and a higher pressure recovery is achieved. The boundary layer at the shroud of the 20° annular diffuser separates for all operating points with the bladed rotor. A partly stabilized 20° annular diffuser can only be achieved for much higher values of the flow coefficient than that for the design point. At this high mass flow, the NACA-bladed rotor operates as a turbine, resulting in the generator mode of the electric drive. Contrary to the numerical design calculations, the flow at the shroud of a 15° annular diffuser does not separate for all swirl configurations in the experiment. Pressure recovery of the 15° annular diffuser can be increased by increasing the inlet swirl whereas the hub boundary layer is destabilized. For the NACA bladed rotor, the flow in the 15° annular diffuser as well as the pressure recovery strongly depend on the flow coefficient. For flow coefficients lower than the design value, the flow partly separates at the shroud whereas large flow coefficients result in increased pressure recovery. The pressure recovery also depends on the direction of swirl and thus the swirl number.

Can type combustors are robust, with ease of design, manufacturing and testing. They are extensively used in industrial gas turbines and aero engines. This paper is mainly based on the work carried out in designing and testing a can type combustion chamber which is operated using JET-A1 fuel. Based on the design requirements, the combustor is designed, fabricated and tested. The experimental results are analysed and compared with the design requirements. The basic dimensions of the combustor, like casing diameter, liner diameter, liner length and liner hole distribution are estimated through a proprietary developed code. An axial flow air swirler with 8 vanes and vane angle of 45 degree is designed to create a re-circulation zone for stabilizing the flame. The Monarch 4.0 GPH fuel nozzle with a cone angle of 80 degree is used. The igniter used is a high energy igniter with ignition energy of 2J and 60 sparks per minute. The combustor is modelled, meshed and analysed using the commercially available ansys-cfx code. The geometry of the combustor is modified iteratively based on the CFD results to meet the design requirements such as pressure loss and pattern factor. The combustor is fabricated using Ni-75 sheet of 1 mm thickness. A small combustor test facility is established. The combustor rig is tested for 50 Hours. The experimental results showed a blow-out phenomenon while the mass flow rate through the combustor is increased beyond a limit. Further through CFD analysis one of the cause for early blow out is identified to be a high mass flow rate through the swirler. The swirler area is partially blocked and many configurations are analysed. The optimum configuration is selected based on the flame position in the primary zone. The change in swirler area is implemented in the test model and further testing is carried out. The experimental results showed that the blow-out limit of the combustor is increased to a good extent. Hence the effect of swirler flow rate on recirculation zone length and flame blow out is also studied and presented. The experimental results showed that the pressure loss and pattern factor are in agreement with the design requirements.

The possibility of extracting wind power from unique configurations embedded in moving vehicles using microturbine devices has been investigated. In such environments with moving frames or platforms, powered either by humans like bicycles or by chemical reactions like automobiles, the specific power of the air motion is much greater and less intermittent than in stationary wind turbines anchored to the ground in open atmospheric conditions. In a translational frame of reference, the rate of work done by the drag force acting on the wind harnessing device due to the relative motion of air should be taken into account in the overall performance evaluation through an energy balance. A device with a venting tube has been tested that connects a high-pressure stagnating flow region in the front of the vehicle with a low-pressure region at its rear. Our analysis identified two key areas to focus on for potentially significant rewards: (1) vehicles with high energy conversion efficiency, which require a high mass flow rate through the venting duct, and (2) vehicles with low energy conversion efficiency with wakes, which will be globally affected by the introduction of the venting duct device in a manner that reduces their drag so that there is a net gain in power generation.

Abstract In this work, the decays of $$B_s$$Bs meson to a charmonium state and a $$K^+K^-$$K+K- pair are carefully investigated in the perturbative QCD approach. Following the latest fit from the LHCb experiment, we restrict ourselves to the case where the produced $$K^+K^-$$K+K- pair interact in isospin zero S, P, and D wave resonances in the kinematically allowed mass window. Besides the dominant contributions of the $$\phi (1020)$$ϕ(1020) resonance in the P-wave and $$f_2'(1525)$$f2′(1525) in the D-wave, other resonant structures in the high mass region as well as the S-wave components are also included. The invariant mass spectra for most of the resonances in the $$B_s\rightarrow J/\psi K^+K^-$$Bs→J/ψK+K- decay are well reproduced. The obtained three-body decay branching ratios can reach the order of $$10^{-4}$$10-4, which seem to be accessible in the near future experiments. The associated polarization fractions of those vector-vector and vector-tensor modes are also predicted, which are compared with the existing data from the LHCb Collaboration.
