Cosmological observations over past couple of decades favor our universe with a tiny positive cosmological constant. Presence of cosmological constant not only imposes theoretical challenges in gravitational wave physics, it has also observational relevance. Inclusion of cosmological constant in linearized theory of gravitational waves modifies the power radiated quadrupole formula. There are two types of observations which can be impacted by the modified quadrupole formula. One is the orbital decay of an inspiraling binary and other is the modification of the waveform at the detector. Modeling a compact binary system in an elliptic orbit on de Sitter background, we obtain energy and angular momentum radiation due to emission of gravitational waves. We also investigate the evolution of orbital parameters under back reaction and its impact on orbital decay rate. In the limit to circular orbit, our result matches to that obtained in [B. Bonga and J. S. Hazboun, Phys. Rev. D 96 (2017) 064018, arXiv:1708.05621 ].

Abstract Recent progress in understanding de Sitter spacetime in supergravity and string theory has led to the development of a four dimensional supergravity with spontaneously broken supersymmetry allowing for de Sitter vacua, also called de Sitter supergravity. One approach makes use of constrained (nilpotent) superfields, while an alternative one couples supergravity to a locally supersymmetric generalization of the Volkov-Akulov goldstino action. These two approaches have been shown to give rise to the same 4D action. A novel approach to de Sitter vacua in supergravity involves the generalisation of unimodular gravity to supergravity using a super-Stückelberg mechanism. In this paper, we make a connection between this new approach and the previous two which are in the context of nilpotent superfields and the goldstino brane. We show that upon appropriate field redefinitions, the 4D actions match up to the cubic order in the fields. This points at the possible existence of a more general framework to obtain de Sitter spacetimes from high-energy theories.

Abstract We generalize a notion of ‘conserved’ charges given by Wald and Zoupas to the asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes. Surprisingly, our construction is less ambiguous than the one encountered in the asymptotically flat context. An expansion around exact solutions possessing Killing vectors provides their physical meaning. In particular, we discuss a question of how to define energy and angular momenta of gravitational waves propagating on Kottler and Carter backgrounds. We show that obtained expressions have a correct limit as Λ → 0. We also comment on the relation between this approach and the one based on the canonical phase space of initial data at ℐ+.

Starting from the self-dual “triplet” of gravitational instanton solutions in Euclidean gravity, we obtain the corresponding instanton solutions in string theory by making use of the target space duality symmetry. We show that these dual triplet solutions can be obtained from the general dual Taub-NUT de Sitter solution through some limiting procedure as in the Euclidean gravity case. The dual gravitational instanton solutions obtained here are self-dual for some cases, with respect to certain isometries, but not always.
