The relationship between the viscosity of Al84Mg10Ce6 alloy melt and liquid structure was studied by viscosity measurements, X-ray diffraction and DSC analysis in this paper. In addition, the glass forming ability of alloy ties produced by melt spinning was analyzed. Based on the above results, the relationship between alloy melts and its glass forming ability(GFA)was studied. The addition of element Ce leads to the abnormal change of Al84Mg10Ce6 melt’ s structure and enhances its GFA, furthermore, it results in completely amorphous ties with melt spinning at 850°C.Therefore, there is certain relationship between the Al-Mg based alloys melt and its GFA.

In order to obtain an insight into the high glass-forming ability of bulk metallic glasses, we have analyzed liquid structures of the Zr-Cu and the Zr-Ni binary alloys with different compositions. High-energy (E = 113 keV) x-ray diffraction experiments were carried out for the liquid alloys levitated by a conical nozzle levitation (CNL) technique. While a peculiar shoulder on the second peak was observed in the structure factors of the Zr-Cu liquid alloys, those of the Zr70Ni30 and the Zr50Ni50 liquids exhibit an asymmetric shape of the second peak. In addition, it was found that the effect of concentration variation in the liquid Zr-Ni alloys was significantly different from that of the liquid Zr-Cu alloys. The liquid structure analyses using the reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) simulation have clarified that a degree of the short-range correlation between the constituents in the liquids affects substantially the glass-forming ability of the binary Zr alloys.

The dependence of the induction period of crystallization on supercooling was examined for the silver nitrate-ethylene glycol system over the concentration region of silver nitrate lome fraction of 0 to 0.12. Addition of AgNO3 to ethylene glycol was found to increase considerably the critical induction period of crystallization, although to a lesser extent than Ca(NO3)2, CaCl2, ZnCl2, LiCl and LiNO3 do. The effect of these salts on the critical induction period of crystallization in dimethylsulfoxide, dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide and methanol was compared in terms of the solvent-rich composition limit of the glass-forming ability. By using the TTT(Time-Temperature-Transformation) theory, it has been deduced that the effect of the salts on the critical induction period of crystallization of ethylene glycol is probably due to the different dependences of viscosity on their concentration in ethylene glyco in the supercooling region.
