The Difference

The emergence of electricity transmission with farther transporting distance, extra-higher voltage and greater transporting power and the formation of the regional interconnected power grid have greatly increased the probability of blackout, this phenomenon has fully exposed the vulnerability of large-scale interconnected power systems. In this paper, Electrical betweenness based on load transfer coefficient is proposed to construct structural vulnerability assessment index. Meanwhile, it is verified that the method is rational and available by analysising the difference of the IEEE-39 system between three attack modes.

This paper presents an assessment of the vulnerability of the power grid to blackout using graph topological indexes. Based on a FERC 715 report and the outage reports, the cascading faults of summer WSCC 1996 are reconstructed, and the graphical property of the grid is compared between two cases: when the blackout triggering lines are removed simulating the actual sequence of cascading outages and when the same number of randomly selected lines are removed. The investigation finds that the critical path lengths of the triggering events of the July and August outages of 1996 WSCC blackout are higher than those of no-outage and arbitrary events. In addition, the small world-ness index for each of the outage triggering events is much smaller than that of normal or any no-outage scenario, indicating that events of shifting a network from small world to a random network would be more likely cascaded to wide area outage.

To study the mechanism of cascading failures in a power grid and find out the key vulnerable lines propagating cascading failures, entropy theory and analysis hierarchy process were applied in entropy-weighted fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model, and information of objective data and the subjective opinion of experts were combined in the model to implement effective evaluation and sorting of line vulnerability. The article builds a index system that contains voltage deviation, power flow coefficient and electric betweenness in considering the network structure and real-time running state of the system, and then the lines vulnerability assessment method is proposed .This method can be used to help power grid designers and operators spot the lines prone to black-out. Numerical example results show that the proposed indicators can overcome the deficiency of existing indicators not taking the state of the grid structure and operation into account which proves the assessment method is feasible.
