Oral spindle cell lipoma is a rare lesion and until now only 26 cases have been reported in English literature. In this article we report a case of oral spindle cell lipoma presented to our institution in July 2011, as an asymptomatic solitary growth of the buccal mucosa in a 58 year old male patient. On histopathological examination the lesion exhibited an admixture of adipocytes and spindle cells with collagen fibres and numerous mast cells. Os lipomas são tumores de tecido mole que raramente acometem a cavidade oral. A lesão apresenta variáveis clínicas e histopatológicas que não alteram seu prognóstico. Apesar de suas características comuns, a lesão pode estabelecer diagnóstico diferencial com outras lesões de tecido mole. O objetivo desse artigo é relatar a apresentação clínica não usual de um lipoma localizado em mucosa jugal com 3cm em sua maior extensão, em paciente do sexo masculino com 56 anos de idade. AbstractWe present a case of a giant Spindle cell lipoma of dimensions 11 cm × 7 cm, involving the middle finger of a 62-year-old female, without distal neurovascular deficits. Spindle cell lipoma is a rare subtype that accounts for 1.5% of all lipomatous tumors. They show a heterogeneous mixture of lipomatous tissue with mature adipocytes interspersed with spindle-shaped cells, without atypia in a sclerotic collagenous stroma. Immunohistochemical (IHC) marker CD34 was positive but negative for S100. The entire tumor was removed with recovery of full range of movements. The case is reported due to the unusual location of a rare variant of giant lipoma involving a finger.

Abstract First characterized by Stroebe, the gliosarcomas are highly malignant and rare primary tumor of the brain composed of neoplastic glial cells in association with spindle cell sarcomatous elements (biphasic tissue patterns). In spite of being recognized as two different pathologies studies have not shown any significant differences between gliosarcoma and glioblastoma with regard to age, sex, size, clinical presentation, and median survival. In summary, gliosarcoma is an aggressive tumor with a propensity to recur and re-grow with poor outcome. Future studies are needed to understand the true pathology of these biphasic tumors.
