Calabria is a region located in Southern Italy and it is characterized by a long tradition of viticulture practices and favorable pedoclimatic conditions for grapevine cultivation. Nevertheless, less than 2% of cultivated land is dedicated to grapevine growing in Calabria. The characterization of local grapevine accessions is crucial to valorize the local and peculiar Italian products and boost the Calabrian winemaking sector. With this purpose, we performed a deep characterization of two widespread Calabrian grapevine varieties—Magliocco Dolce and Brettio Nero, of which very little is known. In particular, a genetic and morphological analysis, a berry physico-chemical and polyphenolic compositions assessment, and oenological evaluation of monovarietal wines were carried out. Our results allowed us to demonstrate that Magliocco Dolce and Brettio Nero are unique and distinct varieties with peculiar morphological and chemical characteristics and show the suitability of these two varieties in high-quality wine production. Moreover, the obtained molecular profiles will be useful for authentication and traceability purposes.

The production of high-quality seed is the basis for a durable a profitable agriculture. After production, seed is processed, conditioned, stored, shipped and germinated. For quality assurance, seed quality has to be controlled at all steps of the production chain. Seed functioning is accompanied by programmed transitions from cell proliferation to quiescence upon maturation and from quiescence to reinitiation of cellular metabolism upon imbibition. Despite the obvious importance of these control mechanisms, very little information is available at the molecular level concerning those elements that regulate seed germination. In the present study, the induction of cell cycle activity and the regulation of ß-tubulin expression is related to the water content and other physical properties of the seed.

The  degree of fertility coefficient absoltul (CFA) and coefficient ratio (CFR) we can see that the highest values were obtained from the variety 'Fetească regală' (54.5 ± 1.00% fertility; 1.60 ± 1.00 coefficient absolute (CFA ) and 0.86 ± 1.00 coefficinet relative (CFR). The  analysis of physical-mechanical based on the results it can be seen that the variety 'Bujoru' showed the best values for all parameters analyzed (303.5 ± 1.0 (g) the average weight of the grape bunch, 278.07 ± 1.0 (g) weight of 100 berries; 213.66 ± 0.67 (g / L) sucrose sugar concent and 4.331 ± 1.0 (kg / comes) average coming production).
