Large scale wind power integration has influenced the safety of power system. Taking wind power integration in Jilin as example, the paper describes the influencing factors of large scale wind power integration on reactive power of the grid in detail firstly, then analyze the reactive voltage in four typical ways, and discuss the impact of the wind power fluctuations on the grid reactive voltage.

With the fast development of the wind power, security constraints of power systems have become the bottleneck of the acceptable capacity for wind power. The underdamping oscillation modes of the inter-area is an important aspect of the constraints. In this paper, an equivalent model of a power system with wind plants has been established, and the impact of the integration of the large-scale wind power on the inter-area oscillation modes has been studied based on the frequency-domain and time-domain simulations. The results indicate that the damping of inter-area oscillation mode can be enhanced by the replacement of synchronous generators (SGs) with the wind generators. The enhancing degree is up to the participation value of the SGs replaced. The conclusion has been verified by the actual system example of Xinjiang-Northwest grid. It can provide a reference for system programming and operation.

With the continuous growth in the amount of wind power accessed by the AC grid, the impact of the grid connection of wind-power generators with the power system has gradually increased. In this study, the subsynchronous oscillation of a synchronous generator (SG) shaft caused by the integration of direct-drive permanent-magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) was investigated. The mechanism governing the effect of the connection strength between the PMSG and AC power system on the stability of the generator shaft system was analyzed based on the complex torque coefficient method. When the connection strength between the PMSG and AC power system weakens, the same voltage variation that occurs at the point of common coupling of the PMSG stimulates more intense power fluctuations in the PMSG, and the electrical damping injected by the PMSG into the SG increases considerably. This may cause the oscillation mode dominated by the generator shaft system to move to the right half of the complex plane, thereby reducing the stability of the generator shaft system. In addition, the evaluation process of the influence of the PMSG on the SG shaft system was summarized, and the proposed method can determine the stability of the AC power system after the integration of the PMSG. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method was validated via study cases, and conclusions were drawn. This method is expected to serve as a useful tool for the risk assessment of subsynchronous oscillations in wind farms.

With the rapid development of the wind power, it is no longer an isolated power system and gradually incorporated in the local power grid. However, as the increasing proportion of the installed wind power capacity in the power grid, the affection of the wind turbine to the region power system is getting heavier, which inevitably bring some new problems to the power system. The low voltage ride through (LVRT) is the direct embodiment of the power quality. In this paper, we fist analyze the impact of the voltage drop on the double-fed wind turbine. Then, a LVRT control method is proposed based on hardware realization. The detailed explanation of the proposed control method is given at last.

The output power of wind farms has significant randomness and variability, which results in adverse impacts on power system frequency stability. This paper extracts wind power fluctuation feature with the HHT (Hilbert-Huang Transform) method. Firstly, the original wind power data was decomposed into several IMFs (Intrinsic Mode Functions) and a tendency component by using the EMD (Empirical Mode Decomposition) method. Secondly, the instantaneous frequency of each IMF was calculated. On this basis, taking a WSCC 9-bus power system as benchmark, the impact on power system frequency caused by wind power fluctuation was simulated in a real-time simulation platform, and the key component which results in the frequency deviation was found. The simulation results validate the wind power fluctuation impacts on frequency deviation, underlying the following study on power system frequency stability under the situation of large-scale intermittent generation access into the grid.

This paper looks at the ability to cope with the uncertainty of wind power and reduce the impact of wind power forecast error (WPFE) on the operation and dispatch of power system. Therefore, several factors which are related to WPFE will be studied. By statistical analysis of the historical data, an indicator of real-time error based on these factors is obtained to estimate WPFE. Based on the real-time estimation of WPFE, a multi-time scale rolling dispatch model for wind/storage power system is established. In the real-time error compensation section of this model, the previous dispatch plan of thermal power unit is revised according to the estimation of WPFE. As the regulating capacity of thermal power unit within a short time period is limited, the estimation of WPFE is further compensated by using battery energy storage system. This can not only decrease the risk caused by the wind power uncertainty and lessen wind spillage, but also reduce the total cost. Thereby providing a new method to describe and model wind power uncertainty, and providing economic, safe and energy-saving dispatch plan for power system. The analysis in case study verifies the effectiveness of the proposed model.
