A carbon composite electrode modified with copper (II) phosphate immobilized in a polyester resin (Cu3(PO4)2-Poly) for the determination of rutin in pharmaceutical samples by square-wave voltammetry is described herein. The modified electrode allows the determination of rutin at a potential (0.20 V vs. Ag/AgCl (3.0 mol L-1 KCl)) lower than that observed at an unmodified electrode. The peak current was found to be linear to the rutin concentration in the range from 9.9 × 10-8 to 2.5 × 10-6 mol L-1, with a detection limit of 1.2×10-8 mol L-1. The response of the electrode was stable, with no variation in baseline levels within several hours of continuous operation. The surface morphology of the modified electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) system. The results obtained are precise and accurate. In addition, these results are in agreement with those obtained by the chromatographic method at a 95% confidence level.

Redox flow battery (RFB) has received tremendous attention as energy storage system coupled with renewable energy sources. In this paper, a low-cost alizarin red S (ARS) organic dye is proposed to serve as the active material for the negative electrode reaction for organic redox flow batteries. Cyclic voltammetry has been conducted under a number of operating conditions to reveal the electrochemical performance of this molecule. The results suggest that ARS is highly reversible at low electrode potential (c.a. 0.082 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode), indicating that ARS is a promising negative electrode material for organic redox flow batteries. The diffusion coefficient of ARS is calculated in the range of 6.424 x 10-4 cm2 s-1, This has indicated fast diffusion rate and electrochemical kinetics for oxidation and reduction in higher concentration of ARS. It has been found out that the higher concentration of ARS in base electrolyte cause lowest diffusion coefficient due to solubility issue of ARS.

The application of voltammetric methods using different rates of polarisation on HMDE reveal inert or labile behaviour of Cd- or Zn- complexes in the presence of excessive cadmium or zinc ions in solution. This phenomenon was demonstrated first on the simplest phytochelatin – complex of peptide(γ-Glu-Cys)2Glywith cadmium, later on rabbit liver metallothioneins –Cd7MTin the presence of cadmium andCd5Zn2MTin the presence of zinc. Voltammetric methods can distinguish between labile and inert complexes present simultaneously and therefore could elucidate their role in reactions of metal ion transfer.Another method using different rates of polarisation – elimination voltammetry with linear scan – proved that S-tetracoordinated complexes of Cd(II) or Zn(II) in the above-mentioned metallothioneins on HMDE are reduced in the adsorbed state. This implies the possibility of increasing the sensitivity of identification or determination of the above complexes. On carbon composite electrode, similar behaviour of Cd-complexes as on HMDE was observed using differential pulse voltammetry.
