OBJECTIVES: Disturbances in eating behavior significantly affect young adults. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of abnormal eating behaviors, according to the Eating Attitudes Test - 26 (EAT-26) in medical students at a university in southern Santa Catarina State, Brazil. METHODS: Self-reported questionnaire, based on the EAT-26 scale, was administered to medical students. Additional questions about age, gender, study period of the course, weight and height were asked. A total of 391 medical students were assessed, amounting to 93.3 percent of the 419 students enrolled. RESULTS: Ten percent of the surveyed subjects had positive EAT-26 scores. This outcome measure was positive associated with females (PR 6.5), body mass index (BMI) ≤ 25 kg/m² (PR 4.5), age ≤ 20 years (PR 1.3) and being student from 1st to 5th semester of the course (PR 1.7). A higher proportion of women gave positive responses to behaviors related to control of food intake or weight loss than men. CONCLUSION: The significant prevalence of behaviors related to eating disorders, predominantly among women, suggests the implementation of preventive measures targeting this population.

Assessing healthy diet literacy and eating behaviors is critical for identifying appropriate public health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. We examined the psychometric properties of digital healthy diet literacy (DDL) and its association with eating behavior changes during the COVID-19 pandemic among nursing and medical students. We conducted a cross-sectional study from 7 April to 31 May 2020 at 10 public universities in Vietnam, in which 7616 undergraduate students aged 19–27 completed an online survey to assess socio-demographics, clinical parameters, health literacy (HL), DDL, and health-related behaviors. Four items of the DDL scale loaded on one component explained 71.32%, 67.12%, and 72.47% of the scale variances for the overall sample, nursing, and medical students, respectively. The DDL scale was found to have satisfactory item-scale convergent validity and criterion validity, high internal consistency reliability, and no floor or ceiling effect. Of all, 42.8% of students reported healthier eating behavior during the pandemic. A 10-index score increment of DDL was associated with 18%, 23%, and 17% increased likelihood of healthier eating behavior during the pandemic for the overall sample (OR, 1.18; 95%CI, 1.13, 1.24; p < 0.001), nursing students (OR, 1.23; 95%CI, 1.10, 1.35; p < 0.001), and medical students (OR, 1.17; 95%CI, 1.11, 1.24; p < 0.001), respectively. The DDL scale is a valid and reliable tool for the quick assessment of digital healthy diet literacy. Students with higher DDL scores had a higher likelihood of healthier eating behavior during the pandemic.

This preliminary study aims to determine how medical students perceive character education in Korea. A structured survey questionnaire to 10 medical students was conducted between September and December 2018. Out of them, 6 students replied. Students’ responses were classified into elements which were also categorized. Twenty-nine core elements of characters in 8 categories were verified that are essential for doctors and the need for character education. The most frequently suggested categories were “care and respect”, “empathy and communication”, and “responsibility and calling”. Participants also said that various forms of character education are necessary and that they were not satisfied with the character education regarding teaching methods. The results verified the character traits that are most essential for doctors and problems related to current character education. The above results will be helpful to prepare the character education curriculum in medical schools.

Aim. Assessment of social anxiety and eating disorders prevalence in students of Voronezh State Medical University after N.N. Burdenko. Methods. The study was conducted in 20202021 among students of Voronezh State Medical University on the basis of the Voronezh Regional Psychoneurological Dispensary and the Lion-Med clinic. Were used printed and online versions of the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale and the Dutch Eating Disorders Questionnaire (DEBQ). It was carried out correlation analysis of data between the general statistical indicators of the sample (gender, age, year of education) and the data of the questionnaires for each question separately. The correlation coefficient for nonparametric scale types (Pearson correlation coefficient) was used in the analysis. Results. Overall, significant level of anxiety was in diagnosed 525 (45.09%) people. The average duration of anxiety symptoms was 1.5 years. High level of social anxiety was estimated in 14.57% (169 people), marked level was revealed in 5.28% (61 people), moderate level was diagnosed in 14.08% (163 people), low social anxiety level was diagnosed in 11.09% (132 people), 54.98% didnt have any features of social anxiety (641 people). Restrictive and emotional types of eating disorders correlate with the female gender and the older year of education (p 0.01). There were no significant correlations between the gender of the respondents and the year of education in relation to the external type of eating disorder. Conclusion. Attention is drawn, firstly, to the relatively high percentage of social anxiety among medical students, and secondly, to the presence of eating behaviors predisposing to eating disorders. Features of restrictive and emotional eating behavior correlate with the year of education (the older the course, the more often these types of eating patterns are revealed).
