Abstract FERRO-TIC MS-5 is comprised of ultrahard titanium carbide grains cemented by an age-hardenable martensitic stainless steel matrix. Its unique combination of wear, heat and corrosion resistance and toughness make it well suited for abrasion-resistant components in the aerospace, chemical and food industries. Its maximum operating temperature is 850 F. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as creep. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-269. Producer or source: Chromalloy Metal Tectonics Company.

Abstract FERRO-TIC CS-40 is a tool steel comprising titanium carbide particles bonded in a matrix of high-carbon high-chromium martensitic stainless steel. It is machinable and heat-treatable by conventional means, and is recommended for wear-resistant components where corrosion resistance is a requirement. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-258. Producer or source: Chromalloy American Corporation, Sintercast Division.

Abstract CarTech 321 is a titanium-stabilized chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel that was developed to provide the performance of an 18-8 austenitic stainless steel with improved intergranular corrosion resistance. Since titanium has a stronger affinity for carbon than chromium, titanium carbide tends to precipitate randomly within the grains instead of forming continuous patterns at the grain boundaries. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-1338. Producer or source: Carpenter Technology Corporation.

In this work, the effect of sintering atmosphere on the corrosion resistance of sintered titanium has been evaluated in 0.9 % aqueous NaCl solution to simulate physiological environment. Corrosion tests were performed on titanium porous sintered under vacuum and vacuum plus dynamic argon. The results showed better passive properties associated to the titanium sintered under argon plus vacuum atmosphere than to the vacuum sintered titanium. The better corrosion resistance of the argon plus vacuum sintered titanium was attributed to the formation of a thin passive film on the titanium surface during sintering due the low oxygen content present in this atmosphere.
