Mathematics teaching through the ages has responded to the needs of the business community and the requirements of the existing culture. In this computer age, more and more high schools are adapting courses to computer instruction. Where does the elementary teacher fit into this picture? In a recent article in The Arithmetic Teacher,2 Lee R. Wolfe lists many misconceptions that seventh graders have about computers. He suggests, “The schools must provide experiences in the curriculum which tend to develop basic computer concepts.”
