The study aimed at the failure analysis and strength evaluation of brazed joints used in household air conditioner. For these goals, the failure modes were investigated through the fractographic analysis and micro-Vickers hardness test. The failure modes were classified into two different types and their mechanism was influenced by heat and internal flaws such as incomplete penetration and pin holes. Also, a finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the strength behavior of the brazed joints according to the heat and internal flaws.

The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of three different types of resin finishes for improving the dimensional stability of 100% cotton honeycombed pique knitted fabrics. After application of each resin at five different concentrations, it was found that the fabric shrinkage could be effectively controlled by using a suitable type and concentration of the resin. However, the cellulose crosslinking by the resin resulted in some loss in the fabric bursting strength. In a second set of experiments, three different types of softeners were applied, at three different concentrations, in combination with the optimized type and concentration of the resin. It was found that the loss in fabric bursting strength due to cellulose crosslinking by the resin could be minimised with a suitable type and concentration of softener without any deterioration in the fabric pilling properties.

In this study, single jersey derivatives of knit fabric were taken to evaluate the performance of water repellent finishes on knit fabrics properties. Here, polo pique and single jersey knit structured fabrics were treated with different types of water repellent chemicals at different formulations. The levels of water repellency of the fabrics were measured in accordance with ISO 4920:2012spray rating test method. To assess the performance of water repellent finishes on knit fabric properties, GSM, bursting strength test according to ASTM (D 3786-87) method, color fastness to wash according to ISO- 105/ C06-C2S method, color fastness to water with ISO 105-E01 method and color fastness to rubbing with ISO-105-X 12 method were done. The results showed that the water repellent finish type and concentration were very important parameters to obtain water repellent fabrics with desirable properties.

The Laplace transform of the extinction time is determined for a general birth and death process with arbitrary catastrophe rate and catastrophe size distribution. It is assumed only that the birth rates satisfyλ0= 0,λj> 0 for eachj> 0, and. Necessary and sufficient conditions for certain extinction of the population are derived. The results are applied to the linear birth and death process (λj=jλ, µj=jμ) with catastrophes of several different types.

Abstract We argue that Tomasello's account overlooks important psychological distinctions between how humans judge different types of moral obligations, such as prescriptive obligations (i.e., what one should do) and proscriptive obligations (i.e., what one should not do). Specifically, evaluating these different types of obligations rests on different psychological inputs and has distinct downstream consequences for judgments of moral character.

Previous freeze fracture results on the intact giant, amoeba Chaos carolinensis indicated the presence of a fibrillar arrangement of filaments within the cytoplasm. A complete interpretation of the three dimensional ultrastructure of these structures, and their possible role in amoeboid movement was not possible, since comparable results could not be obtained with conventional fixation of intact amoebae. Progress in interpreting the freeze fracture images of amoebae required a more thorough understanding of the different types of filaments present in amoebae, and of the ways in which they could be organized while remaining functional.The recent development of a calcium sensitive, demembranated, amoeboid model of Chaos carolinensis has made it possible to achieve a better understanding of such functional arrangements of amoeboid filaments. In these models the motility of demembranated cytoplasm can be controlled in vitro, and the chemical conditions necessary for contractility, and cytoplasmic streaming can be investigated. It is clear from these studies that “fibrils” exist in amoeboid models, and that they are capable of contracting along their length under conditions similar to those which cause contraction in vertebrate muscles.
