High energy electroweak data, including the recent measurement of M top is analyzed within the basic framework of the standard model. While the experimentally measured value of [Formula: see text] implies a low value of M top , the rest of the data demands a much higher value. Estimates of M Higgs within the SM framework including and excluding this Rb measurement are given. Next this discrepancy is expressed in terms of a new parameter, [Formula: see text], the excess[Formula: see text] production compared to that expected from a SM fit. This parameter is determined to be (9.4 to 12.8) ± 5.0 MeV, implying an excess of over 10 000 [Formula: see text] events in each LEP experiment after the 1993 data is fully analyzed. The origin of these events could be non-minimal Higgs pair production which should be thoroughly searched for in the full data sample of ~2×106 events per LEP experiment. Unless this discrepancy eventually turns out to be a fluctuation one may be witnessing at LEP the advent of physics beyond the standard model.

The present status of precision electroweak data is reviewed. These data include LEP measurements of the mass and width of the Z, together with various measurements on the Z-fermion couplings. These data are compared to, and combined with, data from the SLC on the left–right polarized asymmetry, A LR , and the left–right forward–backward asymmetries for b and c quarks. These measurements are combined with hadron collider measurements from the Tevatron and CERN on the mass of the W boson, mW, as well as other electroweak data, in global electroweak fits in which various Standard Model parameters are determined. A comparison is made between the results of direct measurements of mW and the top-quark mass, mt, as determined from the Tevatron, with the indirect results coming from electroweak radiative corrections. Using all precision electroweak data, fits are also made to determine limits on the mass of the Higgs boson, mH. The influence on these limits of specific measurements, particularly those which are somewhat inconsistent with the Standard Model, is explored. The data are also analyzed in terms of the quasi model independent ∊ variables. Improvements in the determination of all of these quantities are expected when the Z data at LEP are fully analyzed, and further measurements on A LR and related asymmetries performed at the SLC. In addition, substantial improvements in the determination of mW are expected from measurements at the Tevatron and in the second phase of LEP. An estimate is made of the likely precision of these data, and the implications of the impact of these data on precision electroweak tests are discussed. This discussion is made both in terms of the Standard Model and also in the context of the quasi model independent ∊ variables.

We scrutinize the parameter space of the SM-like Higgs boson in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) under current experimental constraints. The constraints are from (i) the precision electroweak data and various flavor observables; (ii) the direct 22 separate ATLAS searches in Run-1; (iii) the latest LHC Run-2 Higgs data and tri-lepton search of electroweakinos. We perform a scan over the parameter space and find that the Run-2 data can further exclude a part of parameter space. For the property of the SM-like Higgs boson, its gauge couplings further approach to the SM values with a deviation below 0.1%, while its Yukawa couplings [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] can still sizably differ from the SM predictions by several tens percent.

We review the possible role that multi-Higgs models may play in our understanding of the dynamics of a heavy 4th sequential generation of fermions. We describe the underlying ingredients of such models, focusing on two Higgs doublets, and discuss how they may effectively accommodate the low-energy phenomenology of such new heavy fermionic degrees of freedom. We also discuss the constraints on these models from precision electroweak data as well as from flavor physics and the implications for collider searches of the Higgs particles and of the 4th generation fermions, bearing in mind the recent observation of a light Higgs with a mass of~125 GeV.
