Abstract Using the Witten–Sakai–Sugimoto model in the D0–D4 background, we holographically compute the vacuum decay rate of the Schwinger effect in this model. Our calculation contains the influence of the D0-brane density which could be identified as the $$\theta $$θ angle or chiral potential in QCD. Under the strong electromagnetic fields, the instability appears due to the creation of quark–antiquark pairs and the associated decay rate can be obtained by evaluating the imaginary part of the effective Euler–Heisenberg action which is identified as the action of the probe brane with a constant electromagnetic field. In the bubble D0–D4 configuration, we find the decay rate decreases when the $$\theta $$θ angle increases since the vacuum becomes heavier in the present of the glue condensate in this system. And the decay rate matches to the result in the black D0–D4 configuration at zero temperature limit according to our calculations. In this sense, the Hawking–Page transition of this model could be consistently interpreted as the confined/deconfined phase transition. Additionally there is another instability from the D0-brane itself in this system and we suggest that this instability reflects to the vacuum decay triggered by the $$\theta $$θ angle as it is known in the $$\theta $$θ-dependent QCD.

Recently Palle has investigated the chiral vorticity and Cartan torsion in neutrino asymmetries. In his case he addressed this problem in Goedel s like anisotropic Einstein-Catan cosmology. In this paper we discusse how these ideas applied to sheared Bianchi types I Einstein-Cartan (EC) neutrino amisotropic cosmology, affect the handness of neutrinos in the universe. Actually here a novel concept of the chiral metric is introduced where metric functions also possess two distinct signs as in neutrino flipping or helicity. The axial anomaly equation for neutrinos in the presence of torsion and metric chirality is shown to produce left-handed neutrinos from right-handed torsion. Metric chirality is shown to be able to define how the metric would behave far away of neutrino density. Chiral flipping of the chiral neutrinos in the presence of torsion is also investigated. It is shown that when the chiral torsion is left-handed the chemical chiral potential vanishes as the universe expands.

A new α-oxoaldehyde reagent, 2,2-bis(ethylthio)ethanal 1, has been prepared in high yield from ethanedial. Alkylation of the potassium salt of the enamines of 1 with various alkylating agents followed by insitu hydrolysis of the intermediate imine afforded high yields of the alkylation products of 1. This new reagent was used in the synthesis of a chiral potential precursor of the macrocyclic fragment of cytochalasins A, B, and F, as well as in the syntheses of the physiologically active diolides pyrenophorin and norpyrenophorin.

We study the possibility of canceling the cosmological constant in supergravity string models. We show that with a suitable choice of superpotential the vacuum energy may vanish with the dilaton field at its minimum and supersymmetry broken with a large hierarchy. We derive the condition for which the introduction of a chiral potential, e.g. the inflaton potential, does not destabilize the dilaton field even in the region where the scalar potential takes positive values. This allows for an inflationary potential with the dilaton frozen at its minimum.
