The dual formulation of support vector regression involves two closely related sets of variables. When the decomposition method is used, many existing approaches use pairs of indices from these two sets as the working set. Basically, they select a base set first and then expand it so all indices are pairs. This makes the implementation different from that for support vector classification. In addition, a larger optimization subproblem has to be solved in each iteration. We provide theoretical proofs and conduct experiments to show that using the base set as the working set leads to similar convergence (number of iterations). Therefore, by using a smaller working set while keeping a similar number of iterations, the program can be simpler and more efficient.

We provide a brief introduction to the ABJM theory, the level kU(N) × U(N) superconformal Chern-Simons matter theory which has been conjectured to describe N coincident M2 -branes. We discuss its dual formulation in terms of M -theory on AdS4 × S7/ℤk and review some of the evidence in favor of the conjecture. We end with a brief discussion of the important role played by the monopole operators.

The dual formulation of the maximal-minimal problem for an objective function of the error response to a fixed input in the continuous-time systems is given by a result of Fenchel dual. This formulation probably changes the original problem in the infinite dimensional space into the maximal problem with some restrained conditions in the finite dimensional space, which can be researched by finite dimensional space theory. When the objective function is given by the norm of the error response, the maximum of the error response or minimum of the error response, the dual formulation for the problems of L1-optimal control, the minimum of maximal error response, and the minimal overshoot etc. can be obtained, which gives a method for studying these problems.

The effective action for the low energy scattering of two gravitons with a D-brane in the presence of a constant antisymmetric B field in bosonic string theory is calculated and the modification to the standard D-brane action to first order in α′ is obtained.

We show that the super D3-brane action on AdS5×S5 background recently constructed by Metsaev and Tseytlin is exactly invariant under the combination of the electric–magnetic duality transformation of the world-volume gauge field and the SO(2) rotation of N=2 spinor coordinates. The action is shown to satisfy the Gaillard–Zumino duality condition, which is a necessary and sufficient condition for an action to be self-dual. Our proof needs no gauge fixing for the κ-symmetry.
