The differential cross-sections for elastic scattering of deuterons on 12 C and 16 O nuclei at 700 MeV are calculated on the basis of multiple diffraction scattering theory and the α-cluster model with dispersion. For d−12 C scattering it was shown that the results of the calculations by the model, when the effects related with the deuteron structure included via deuteron-α amplitude are in better agreement with the experimental data than those by the model, in which incident deuteron is considered as composed of neutron and proton.

Uniform Semiclassical Approximation

The uniform semiclassical approximation of the elastic scattering amplitude is generalized to absorptive systems. An integral equation is derived which connects the absorption-modified amplitude to the absorption-free one. Division of the amplitude into diffractive and refractive components is then made possible. Relevance of our formalism to the algebraic approach to scattering theory is pointed out.

The importance of the nucleon Fermi motion in π–nucleus elastic scattering is investigated in the framework of the multiple scattering theory. Conventional factorization approximations on the π–nucleus scattering amplitude are compared with calculations that take into account the nucleon Fermi motion by using π–12C as an example. The importance of a careful treatment of the Fermi motion in low energy scattering will be stressed.

An approach for the three-body force effect is used to study p-[Formula: see text] elastic scattering at energies 350–1728[Formula: see text]MeV. The multiple scattering theory of Glauber and the optical limit approximation are used in calculations of elastic scattering differential cross-section at 350, 600, 800, 1000 and 1728[Formula: see text]MeV. The inclusion of 2[Formula: see text]-exchange three-nucleon force improves the agreement with the experimental data for both approximations. The results of optical limit approximation without three-nucleon force effect are clearly smaller than the results of multiple scattering theory for [Formula: see text] due to the absence of multiple scattering terms in the first. However, with inclusion of three-nucleon force, the results of both approximations are approximately similar.
