AbstractLet k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic two. Let R be the ring of Witt vectors of length two over k. We construct a group stack Ĝ over k, the metaplectic extension of the Greenberg realization of $\operatorname{\mathbb{S}p}_{2n}(R)$. We also construct a geometric analogue of the Weil representation of Ĝ, this is a triangulated category on which Ĝ acts by functors. This triangulated category and the action are geometric in a suitable sense.

In the theory of automorphic forms on covering groups of the general linear group, a central role is played by certain local representations which have unique Whittaker models. A representation with this property is called distinguished. In the case of the 2-sheeted cover of GL2, these representations arise as the the local components of generalizations of the classical θ-function. They have been studied thoroughly in [GPS]. The Weil representation provides these representations with a very nice realization, and the local factors attached to these representations can be computed using this realization. It has been shown [KP] that only in the case of a certain 3-sheeted cover do we find other principal series of covering groups of GL2 which have a unique Whittaker model. It is natural to ask if these distinguished representations also have a realization analgous to the Weil representation.

In connection with the Shimura correspondence, Shintani [6] and Niwa [4] constructed a modular form by the integral with the theta kernel arising from the Weil representation. They treated the group Sp(1) × O(2, 1). Using the special isomorphism of O(2, 1) onto SL(2), Shintani constructed a modular form of half-integral weight from that of integral weight. We can write symbolically his case as “O(2, 1)→ Sp(1)” Then Niwa’s case is “Sp(l)→ O(2, 1)”, that is from the halfintegral to the integral. Their methods are generalized by many authors. In particular, Niwa’s are fully extended by Rallis-Schiffmann to “Sp(l)→O(p, q)”.

AbstractLet k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic greater than 2, and let F=k((t)) and G=𝕊p2d. In this paper we propose a geometric analog of the Weil representation of the metaplectic group $\widetilde G(F)$. This is a category of certain perverse sheaves on some stack, on which $\widetilde G(F)$ acts by functors. This construction will be used by Lysenko (in [Geometric theta-lifting for the dual pair S𝕆2m, 𝕊p2n, math.RT/0701170] and subsequent publications) for the proof of the geometric Langlands functoriality for some dual reductive pairs.

For the modular variety attached to an arithmetic subgroup of an indefinite unitary group of signature $(1,n+1)$, with $n\geqslant 1$, we study Heegner divisors in the local Picard group over a boundary component of a compactification. For this purpose, we introduce local Borcherds products. We obtain a precise criterion for local Heegner divisors to be torsion elements in the Picard group, and further, as an application, we show that the obstructions to a local Heegner divisor being a torsion element can be described by certain spaces of vector-valued elliptic cusp forms, transforming under a Weil representation.
