A fluency disorders prevention program for classroom use, designed to develop the feeling of fluency control in normally fluent preschool and primary grade children, is described. The program addresses the affective, behavioral, and cognitive aspects of fluency and features activities that not only develop the child’s fluency motor skills but also teach the language of fluency by developing the child’s metalinguistic skills.

The traditional method of study known as hevruta is the foundation of traditional Jewish methods of learning as practiced in the yeshiva. This method has been articulated as Scriptural Reasoning in a way that emphasizes the practice of engaged reflection on a text. In this chapter, the authors will attempt a different articulation based on the use of this method in their classrooms, an approach that emphasizes disagreement. When disagreement is placed at the center of the process, the hevruta method becomes a tool for encountering and learning from religious difference. The chapter provides an overview of and rationale for using hevruta, a treatment of learning objectives, suggested steps for classroom use, sample questions, and a discussion of hevruta and comparative theology.

Today, millions of teachers search online to locate ideas and activities for classroom use. While some may visit established curricular sites with vetted classroom materials, many others turn to online educational marketplaces such as TeachersPayTeachers. However, issues of quality on these sites remain in question — particularly when it comes to the extent to which diverse perspectives are included or excluded. Leanna Archambault, Catharyn Shelton, and Lauren McArthur Harris highlight concerns surrounding the limited perspectives present in online educational marketplaces and provide research-driven guidelines for educators evaluating resources from such sites.

LSU began introducing a prototype SCOPE-ON-A-ROPE (SOAR) to selected teachers in Louisiana and Tennessee three years ago as part of our K-12 outreach activities. It proved to be an invaluable aid to all K-12 classrooms as well as to college classrooms or laboratories in several disciplines. The SOAR is extremely easy to use in the normal classroom setting, but can also introduce sophisticated concepts usually possible only through complicated microscopy exercises with specialized instrumentation.The professional microscopist who occasionally teaches students how to use microscopes can only begin to appreciate the position of classroom teachers who are routinely faced with inadequate, insufficient microscopes for classes of 20- 30 students at a time. This SOAR, inspired by industrial inspection devices, aids the teacher in introducing valuable concepts in microscopy and scale while easily serving the functions of many different microscopes and accessories. Classroom use of the Personalized System of Instruction (PSI) was investigated by sending questionnaires to three groups, early (before 1975) users of PSI, recent (after 1975) users, and current chairpersons of psychology departments. Data from all three sources suggest that fewer PSI courses are being taught, and that many depart substantially from the original PSI format.
