The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees calls the ongoing Syrian Civil War “the biggest humanitarian emergency of our era.” Since 2011, over 5.4 million individuals have fled across borders throughout the region and further abroad into Europe. Western media have documented Syrian border crossings and stories through riveting journalism, interviews, photography, and maps. While the written and photographic reporting of Syrian stories use captivating imagery and testimonials to convey the traumatic experiences of individuals, these experiences are limited in the accompanying cartographic coverage. Instead, Western media’s cartographic practices commonly aggregate refugees into flow lines, proportional symbols, and reference points, and frequently simplify border experiences into homogeneous, black line symbols. Flow lines, homogeneous border symbols, and other mapping conventions silence the experiences of individual Syrians and negate emotions, perils, and geopolitical issues linked to border crossings. I ask the following research questions: How can the cartographic portrayal of Syrian peoples’ border experiences be improved to more fully represent their experiences? Furthermore, how can a feminist perspective inform an alternative mapping of borders and border experiences? Through a feminist lens, I have developed an alternative mapping technique that emphasizes borders as a theoretical and conceptual advancement in cartographic design and border symbolization. By rendering Syrian border stories and experiences visible with cartography, my work nudges critical and feminist cartographies forward and gives Syrians a geographic voice unavailable to them through conventional cartographies.

Background: Recently, molecular electronics have attracted the attention of many researchers, both theoretically and applied electronics.Nanostructures have significant thermal properties, which is why they are considered as good options for designing a new generation of integrated electronic devices. Objective: In this paper, the focus is on the thermoelectric properties of the molecular junction points with the electrodes. Also, the influence of the number of atom contacts was investigated on the thermoelectric properties of molecule located between two electrodes metallic.Therefore, the thermoelectric characteristics of the B12 N12 molecule are investigated. Methods: For this purpose, the Green’s function theory as well as mapping technique approach with the wide-band approximation and also the inelastic behaviour is considered for the electron-phonon interactions. Results & Conclusion: Results & Conclusion:It is observed that the largest values of the total part of conductance as well as its elastic (G(e,n)max) depends on the number of atom contacts and are arranged as: G(e,1)max>G(e,4)max>G(e,6)max. Furthermore, the largest values of the electronic thermal conductance, i.e. Kpmax is seen to be in the order of K(p,4)max < K(p,1)max < K(p,6)max that the number of main peaks increases in four-atom contacts at (E<Ef). Furthermore, it is represented that the thermal conductance shows an oscillatory behavior which is significantly affected by the number of atom contacts.

Objective: Dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM) make up the largest group of potentially treatable myopathies and require early diagnosis. This study investigates whether the edema of thigh muscles in DM/PM can be quantitatively assessed by a novel accelerated T2 mapping technique—GRAPPATINI. Methods: Three conventional MR sequences and GRAPPATINI accelerated T2 mapping of bilateral thighs from 20 patients (7 DM and 13 PM) and 10 healthy volunteers were prospectively carried out on a 3 T MR scanner. Afterwards, T2 values of 477 thigh muscles from the patients and the healthy controls were manually measured. In addition, the correlations between T2 values and serum muscle enzymes in patients were also analyzed. Results: The new GRAPPATINI technique made quantitative T2 mapping of bilateral thighs feasible with a scanning time of only 2 min 18 s. Moreover, GRAPPATINI-generated T2 values of muscles from patients were markedly higher than those from healthy subjects (p < 0.001). GRAPPATINI accelerated T2 mapping appeared a more sensitive technique in that some DM/PM muscles appearing normal per conventional MRI had increased T2 relaxation time. Furthermore, GRAPPATINI-generated T2 values of DM/PM thigh muscles positively correlated with serum enzyme levels (p < 0.001), which reflected the severity of myopathy. Conclusion: GRAPPATINI can significantly shorten acquisition time of T2 mapping and may potentially be applied clinically in DM and PM. Advances in knowledge: GRAPPATINI acceleration makes T2 mapping feasible in clinical practice in providing quantitative information regarding thigh muscle inflammation in DM and PM.

Abstract Background It has been reported that elimination of non-pulmonary vein (PV) triggers after PV isolation is a good predictor of atrial tachyarrhythmia free survival. However, precise mapping of triggers outside from superior vena cava (SVC) or left atrial posterior wall (LAPW) are difficult. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of self-reference mapping technique to eliminate non-PV triggers originated from outside of primordial pulmonary vein area. Methods Total of 431 patients (446 procedures) underwent atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation in a hospital and in a medical center from January 2017 to March 2019. After isolation of PV, non-PV triggers were induced with isoproterenol and/or adenosine triphosphate. Reproducible non-PV triggers were targeted to ablate using following self-reference mapping technique: A trigger conducts centrifugally and the earliest site should be distinguished from other later activated sites. Using a PentaRay multipolar catheter, the operators annotated the earliest site of local activation and a reference tag was placed. The multipolar catheter was then moved to the reference tag and the process repeated. Ultimately, we identified clusters of early circumferential activation and ablated. Results A total of 32 non-PV triggers excluding the origin from LAPW and SVC were induced in 23 patients. Nineteen triggers (59%) were located in the right atrium and 13 triggers (41%) in the left atrium (Figure 1). All triggers were eliminated with ablation and AF was non-inducible in all patients at the end of the procedure. During the follow-up (529±270 days), 18 patients (77%) were free from atrial tachyarrhythmias after a 3-month blanking period. Three patients received additional ablation procedures for recurrent atrial arrhythmias. No non-PV triggers ablated during the previous procedure were observed. Conclusion A novel self-reference mapping technique is useful for eliminating non-PV triggers in terms of the short- and long-term success. Figure 1.
