Research in nonferrous metallurgy in the National Technical University of Athens/Greece

The article is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Department of Electric Power Transmission of the National Technical University ″Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute″. The main stages of creation and development of the department are presented, data on outstanding specialists and scientists who took part in the creation and development of the department are given. A retrospective analysis of the main areas of research conducted by employees of the department for the entire period of its work. The main aspects of educational and methodical work of the department are considered. The current state of scientific and pedagogical work performed by the staff of the department is analysed, and the most promising areas of its development are presented.

This article is about the importance of sanitary and hygienic examination of water complexes, in particular, swimming pools and water parks. There is an increasing demand for visiting such water complexes in Ukraine, both for sports activities and for leisure activities. The focus of this article is on the sanitary and hygienic examination and survey of pool water, which is treated with sodium hypochlorite (obtained by chemical way). Material and methods. The studies were carried out for 10 weeks, including a series of water samples, which were taken during the quarantine period, when swimmers were prohibited from visiting the pool. This situation made possible to make a comparative hygienic assessment of the effect of workload on the water condition in the pool and the effectiveness of disinfection. There was also a short review and characteristics of hypochlorite A, which was obtained in chemical way, its advantages and disadvantages as a disinfectant. The article analyzes the data obtained during the sanitary and hygienic survey of the pool of the swimming pool of the national technical university, their statistical processing, and comparison with the current regulatory documents of Ukraine and some other states. The data obtained in the course of a series of studies indicated a significant human influence on the state of water in the pool, which once again indicates the importance of health education of the population and visitors in swimming pools and water parks, in particular, the need to take a shower before swimming, after using the toilet, etc.; the need for training the right culture of visiting different water objects. Particular attention should be paid to swimming pools frequented by children, as they often do not have sufficient hygiene skills, or due to age cannot constantly monitor urination, so, as a rule, it`s an acute issue of large amounts of chloramines in swimming pools for children. Conclusion. In particular, a statistically significant difference was obtained in terms of ammonia and ammonium ions (in total), which indicated a significant influence of visitors on this parameter. And, as you know, organic impurities (sweat, urine, cosmetics remains etc.) that get into the water together with the swimmers, react with chlorine and form chloramines, which can negatively affect the health of both the visitors and the staff. This must be taken into account while changing the workload on the pool and choosing the dose of disinfectant

The main directions of the International Conference «STI 2017: Open indicators: innovation, participation and actor-based STI indicators» (Paris, 6-8 September 2017) were the following according to the author's opinion: survey of geographical features, patterns of the science development and a choice of adequate indicators to evaluate these features and patterns; as well as development of new methods for data processing, sharing, analysis and use to assess science and technology. As the conference was held in the format of 4 parallel sessions being carried on simultaneously, the author was compelled to choose the presentations closest to his interests, namely, presentations on scientometrics and related issues. Such a choice was not subjective, because the author being an employee of the Belarusian National Technical University Scientific Library, is engaged in evaluating research activity of scientific organizations and universities (which have long been regarded as an objective of research libraries by serious library specialists of Belarus and Ukraine), as well as of scientific periodicals, and therefore is most interested in information about indicators of research activity of scientific organizations and universities and, especially, about indicators of value and quality of academic periodicals. The presentations that the author has managed to listen to and the discussions that he participated in, transferred via this mini-review seem to be helpful in further bibliometric studies conducted in the Belarusian National Technical University Scientific Library and to be of an interest to the readers of the journal.

Υπολογισμός του θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς στον ελλαδικό χώρο με τη χρήση δεδομένων δορυφορικής αλτιμετρίας και μοντέλων επιχειρησιακής ωκεανογραφίας

Κύριο αντικείμενο της παρούσας διδακτορικής διατριβής είναι η ανάπτυξη μεθοδολογίας για την βελτιστοποίηση του υπολογισμού του θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς στον Ελλαδικό χώρο με τη χρήση παρατηρήσεων δορυφορικής αλτιμετρίας και δεδομένων από ωκεανογραφικά μοντέλα. Ως περιοχή εφαρμογής της μεθοδολογίας επιλέχθηκε ο θαλάσσιος χώρος Βόρεια του 33ου και Νότια του 42ου παραλλήλου μεταξύ του 19ου και 30ου μεσημβρινού. Η συγκεκριμένη περιοχή, που ουσιαστικά αντιστοιχεί στον Ελλαδικό θαλάσσιο χώρο, παρουσιάζει ενδιαφέρον όχι μόνο για την τοπική επιστημονική κοινότητα, αλλά και για την παγκόσμια καθώς είναι από τις πλέον απαιτητικές θαλάσσιες περιοχές για την εφαρμογή των τεχνικών της δορυφορικής αλτιμετρίας και των μοντέλων ωκεάνιας κυκλοφορίας. Η εκτίμηση του θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς για την περιοχή της μελέτης γίνεται έμμεσα με τον υπολογισμό της επιφάνειας της ΜΣΘ από παρατηρήσεις δορυφορικής αλτιμετρίας, με βάση την τεχνική της «επαναληπτικής προσαρμογής των τόξων», και στη συνέχεια, αφαιρώντας από αυτή ένα μοντέλο ΜΔΩΤ όπως υπολογίζεται σύμφωνα με την ωκεανογραφική προσέγγιση. Με αυτό τον τρόπο παρουσιάζονται το μοντέλο της ΜΣΘ National Technical University of Athens MSS version 1 (NTUAMSSv1), και το μοντέλο του θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς National Technical University of Athens Marine Geoid version 1 (NTUAMGv1). Η "έμμεση ωκεανογραφική" προσέγγιση που ακολουθείται για τον υπολογισμό του θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς είναι μια εναλλακτική λύση στην κλασική "άμεση γεωδαιτική" προσέγγιση που βασίζεται αποκλειστικά σε παρατηρήσεις βαρύτητας. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι η ωκεανογραφική προσέγγιση του θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς δεν έχει μελετηθεί και εφαρμοστεί μέχρι στιγμής στην περιοχή της μελέτης. Η ωκεανογραφική προσέγγιση του θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς είναι εξαιρετικά ελκυστική για διάφορους λόγους που αναλύονται όπως i) η ανεξαρτησία της από τη διαθεσιμότητα παρατηρήσεων θαλάσσιας βαρύτητας, και ii) η δυνατότητα υπολογισμού επικαιροποιημένων εκδόσεων των μοντέλων λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τα νέα δεδομένα τα οποία διατίθενται ελεύθερα και συνεχώς. Με βάση το μοντέλο NTUAMGv1, υπολογίζεται το πεδίο τιμών των ανωμαλιών της βαρύτητας ελευθέρου αέρα για την περιοχή της μελέτης National Technical University of Athens Free Air gravity Anomalies version 1 (NTUAFAAv1). Τα νέα τοπικά μοντέλα NTUAMSSv1, NTUAMGv1 και NTUAFAAv1 αξιολογούνται εκτενώς σε συγκρίσεις με τα αντίστοιχα παγκόσμια μοντέλα και με άλλα διαθέσιμα δεδομένα, όπως γεωμετρικά υψόμετρα από GPS σε σημεία γνωστών ορθομετρικών υψομέτρων, παρατηρήσεις ναυτικής αλτιμετρίας με GPS, από αέρος αλτιμετρία, και με δεδομένα αποστολών θαλάσσιας και από αέρος βαρύτητας. Με βάση τις συγκρίσεις, συμπεραίνεται ότι η τεχνική της επαναληπτικής προσαρμογής των τόξων έχει ως αποτέλεσμα τη βελτίωση της μοντελοποίησης της ΜΣΘ και θαλάσσιου γεωειδούς στην περιοχή της μελέτης. Όσον αφορά τη συμβολή της νέας τεχνικής στη μοντελοποίηση της θαλάσσιας βαρύτητας, αυτή φαίνεται ότι προσφέρει μια μικρή βελτίωση ειδικά κοντά στις ακτές. Τέλος, σημειώνεται ότι η 'έμμεση ωκεανογραφική' έχει ορισμένα πλεονεκτήματα όπως η ομοιομορφία στη χωρική κατανομή των δεδομένων, στην περιοδικότητα, στη συνεχή και στην ελεύθερη διάθεσή τους.
