AbstractIn this work, using two scalar fields ($$\phi $$ ϕ , $$\psi $$ ψ ) coupled to 4 + 1 dimensional gravity, we construct novel topological brane solutions through an explicit U(1) symmetry breaking term. The potential of this model is constructed so that two distinct degenerate vacua in the $$\phi $$ ϕ field exist, in analogy to the $$\phi ^{4}$$ ϕ 4 potential. Therefore, brane solutions appear due to the vacuum structure of the $$\phi $$ ϕ field. However, the topology and vacuum structure in the $$\psi $$ ψ direction depends on the symmetry breaking parameter $$\beta ^{2}$$ β 2 , which leads to different types of branes. As a result, one can interpret the present model as a combination of a $$\phi ^{4}$$ ϕ 4 brane with an auxiliary field, which leads to deviations from the $$\phi ^{4}$$ ϕ 4 system with the brane achieving a richer internal structure. Furthermore, we analyse in detail the behaviour of the superpotentials, the warp factors, the Ricci and Kretschmann scalars and the Einstein tensor components. In addition to this, we explore the stability of the brane in terms of the free parameters of the model. The analysis presented here complements previous work and is sufficiently novel to be interesting.

We discuss the effect of a strong magnetic field in the behavior of the symmetry of an electrically neutral electroweak plasma. We analyze the case of a strong field and low temperatures as compared with the W rest energy. If the magnetic field is large enough, it is self-consistently maintained. It is shown that the charged vector bosons play the most important role, leading only to a decrease of the symmetry breaking parameter, the symmetry restoration not being possible.

We discuss a model based on μ ↔ τ symmetry acting in the lepton sector, which leads to maximal atmospheric mixing angle and θ13 = 0. We show that in the symmetric limit the lepton asymmetry ∊l of the universe can be given in a simple form in terms of the neutrino oscillation parameters. We also find that for the case of two right handed neutrinos ∊l, constrain the symmetry breaking parameter θ13 to be in range 0.1 to 0.2 depending on the leptonic CP violation phase.

By means of fuzzy generalized cell mapping method, a Duffing-Van der Pol oscillator in the presence of fuzzy noise is studied in a regime where two symmetrically related fuzzy period-one attractors grow and merge as the intensity of fuzzy noise is increased. By introducing a small symmetry-breaking parameter to break the symmetry, the merging explosion bifurcation unfolds to a pattern of two catastrophic and explosive bifurcations. Considering both the intensity of fuzzy noise and the symmetry-breaking parameter together as controls, a codimension two bifurcation of fuzzy attractors is defined, and two examples of additive and multiplicative fuzzy noise are given. Such a codimension two bifurcation is fuzzy noise-induced effects which cannot be seen in the deterministic systems.
