Measurements of the thermal expansion of FezMnSi in the temperature range 200-300 K are reported. A large, relatively narrow peak is found at the magnetic re-ordering temperature in contrast to a broad, weak anomaly at the Curie temperature. Values for the magnetic Gruneisen parameter 'Y m are derived from the thermal expansion data and previously reported specific heat data following the subtraction of a non-magnetic background.

This paper describes the morphology and anatomy of a structure which appears in the floral racemes of Genista florida L. subsp. polygaliphylla (Brot.) Couthino. In this subspecies the floral racemes have a small number of flowers. This structure develops quite frequently in this taxon, which is found in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, but never in Genista florida subsp. florida. Its morphology is simple: bottle-shaped, wide at the base and elongated to a narrow peak at the upper extreme. Anatomical examination shows that these structures have a close similarity to flowers. Since they develop by the oviposition of one insect of the Cecidomyiidae family in the floral buds, they can be considered galls. This fact is of great interest in the taxonomy of the group because the number of flowers is a differential character between the two subspecies of G. florida.

AbstractThin films (1–2μm) of cadmium sulphide, deposited by electrophoresis, consist of a close packed layer of randomly oriented cubic-phase microcrystalline particles with an average diameter of 30nm. A CW CO2 laser, operating at 10.6μm has been used to convert this into a polycrystalline structure with columnar crystals, of hexagonal phase, which extend through the thickness of the film and whose c-axis is perpendicular to the substrate. The recrystallised regions comprise aligned grains up to 300nm in diameter whose cathodoluminescence spectrum exhibits a narrow peak centred at 2.42eV with a half width identical to that for evaporated CdS (0.1eV).

ABSTRACTThe electronic structure of delta plutonium (δ-Pu) and plutonium compounds is investigated using photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). Results for δ-Pu show a small component of the valence electronic structure which might reasonably be associated with a 5f6 configuration. PES results for PuTe are used as an indication for the 5f6 configuration due to the presence of atomic multiplet structure. Temperature dependent PES data on δ-Pu indicate a narrow peak centered 20 meV below the Fermi energy and 100 meV wide. The first PES data for PuCoIn5 indicate a 5f electronic structure more localized than the 5fs in the closely related PuCoGa5. There is support from the PES data for a description of Pu materials with an electronic configuration of 5f5 with some admixture of 5f6 as well as a localized/delocalized 5f5 description.

This work is devoted to a Generator-Coordinate-Method investigation of the 16 B spectrum with an Extended Two-Cluster Model which includes many 15 B + n channels. We find that the narrow peak above the 15 B + n threshold seen in the experiments of Kalpachieva et al. and of Lecouey et al. can be assigned to a [Formula: see text] resonance. Several resonances are obtained near the 15 B + n threshold, in particular a [Formula: see text] state which could be a possible candidate for the 16 B ground state. Comparison with Shell Model calculations is performed.
