Faculty in Third World countries are in need of training programs which will help them incorporate computer technology in their classrooms. Prior to delivery of training, it is important to conduct a needs assessment which determines who gets what type of training, and how this should be provided. A training needs assessment model for faculty in Third World countries is proposed in this article. The use of such a model would help identify the areas in which training is to be ultimately delivered.

The use and importance of technology in teaching and learning processes is well established in teacher training programs and teaching literature; however, integration of technology in meaningful ways remains a challenge. For teacher candidates to be able to effectively integrate technology in the classrooms, they need to experience meaningful technology pedagogical practices during teacher training. This chapter synthesizes well-established and relatively new technology pedagogical strategies that could be used with teacher candidates. The aim is to provide a summary of research-based strategies for teacher educators interested in improving technology integration in their teacher training programs.

The objectives of this study were to explore teacher student’s views on the research training they receive and know their suggestions for improving it. This was a qualitative study conducted on students in the teacher training programs of a Chilean public university who were distributed into nine focus groups. The findings showed that the students have a rather critical view about the training they receive, particularly due to the lack of continuity of research-related courses and their limited participation in research activities. Regarding how to improve their training, the students suggest providing one research-related course each year, having researchers as teachers, and giving greater visibility to the educational research produced within their university. The study concludes that it is important to promote participation in educational research and that university teacher educators and the entire university community must adopt a broad-ranging view on this subject.

Despite growing awareness of crime victims’ needs for support and services, few studies have examined the training needs of those who provide such services. This research presents the results of statewide needs assessment of victims services providers (VSPs) conducted in preparation for designing a state victim assistance training academy. Respondents were asked to indicate their needs for training on various topics pertaining to victims services. Results indicate that extent of formal education and years of experience in the field are the primary determinants of reported needs for training. Respondents with less formal education and less experience in the field, regardless of the nature of their organizational position (client services vs. management), report greater needs for training. Implications for designing training programs for VSPs are discussed.

Determining the needs of the participants in a community extension program prioritizes the topics that they will be interested to attend. This ensures that participants are motivated and interested in various topics presented in the program. The study assessed the needs of participants from Village Looc, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines, on the computer literacy program (CLIP) offered by the UCLM College of Computer Studies. The findings of the study were the basis for a proposed annual extension program plan for June 2018 to May 2019.Findings revealed that the top ten needs were: computer assembly, computer troubleshooting, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint, Internet cable termination, game development, web design, mobile application, keyboarding, and hard disk installation.Determining the needs of the participants prioritizes the topics that they will be interested to attend. This ensures that participants are motivated and interested in various topics presented in the computer literacy training program. Keywords: Computer assembly; computer troubleshooting; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Powerpoint; Internet cable terminationRecommended citation: Semblante, J. With the increasing use of computers in the horticulture industry, advisory committees are recommending computer literacy training. Database management software is a tool students can use to enhance the learning of plants and obtain handson experience with computers. Students in an herbaceous plant materials course develop a plant database and create a companion flash card set from printed database records and pictures. Benefits of the project are: Improved memorization of plant information, enhanced information research skills, and use of a tool in later design activities. Other horticulturally related courses, including woody plant materials and pest management, can use the activities to achieve similar benefits.
