J. M. Borwein has given in [1] a practical necessary and sufficient condition for a convex operator to be continuous at some point. Indeed J. M. Borwein has proved in his paper that a convex operator with values in an order topological vector space F (with normal positive cone F+) is continuous at some point if and only if it is bounded from above by a mapping which is continuous at this point. This result extends a previous one by M. Valadier in [16] asserting that a convex operator is continuous at a point whenever it is bounded from above by an element in F on a neighbourhood of the concerned point. Note that Valadier's result is necessary if and only if the topological interior of F+ is nonempty. Obviously both results above are generalizations of the classical one about real-valued convex functions formulated in this context exactly as Valadier's result (see for example [5]).

AbstractThe notion of $B$-convexity for operator spaces, which a priori depends on a set of parameters indexed by $\sSi$, is defined. Some of the classical characterizations of this geometric notion for Banach spaces are studied in this new context. For instance, an operator space is $B_{\sSi}$-convex if and only if it has $\sSi$-subtype. The class of uniformly non-$\mathcal{L}^1(\sSi)$ operator spaces, which is also the class of $B_{\sSi}$-convex operator spaces, is introduced. Moreover, an operator space having non-trivial $\sSi$-type is $B_{\sSi}$-convex. However, the converse is false. The row and column operator spaces are nice counterexamples of this fact, since both are Hilbertian. In particular, this result shows that a version of the Maurey–Pisier Theorem does not hold in our context. Some other examples of Hilbertian operator spaces will be considered. In the last part of this paper, the independence of $B_{\sSi}$-convexity with respect to $\sSi$ is studied. The Ideal

We investigate here classes of operators T between Banach spaces E and F, which have factorization of the formwhere L is a Banach lattice, V is a p-convex operator, U is a q-concave operator (definitions below) and jF is the cannonical embedding of F in F”. We show that for fixed p, q this class forms a perfect normed ideal of operators Mp, q, generalizing the ideal Ip,q of [5]. We prove (Proposition 5) that Mp, q may be characterized by factorization through p-convex and q-concave Banach lattices. We use this fact together with a variant of the complex interpolation method introduced in [1], to show that an operator which belongs to Mp, q may be factored through a Banach lattice with modulus of uniform convexity (uniform smoothness) of power type arbitrarily close to q (to p). This last result yields similar geometric properties in subspaces of spaces having G.L. – l.u.st.
