The solvent extraction of iron(III) into tributyl phosphate by a number of substituted salicylic acids has been examined. It has been concluded that there is no difference in the mode of extraction by the different acids, in each case the ex-tracted species having the formula Fe(R- Sal)(R-HSal), and that the observed differences in extraction behaviour are most probably associated with the strengths of extracting acids.
