The problem of the estimation of unknown weights of \(p = v + 1\) objects in the model of the chemical balance weighing design under the assumption that the measurement errors are uncorrelated and they have different variances is considered. The existence conditions determining the optimum design are presented.

The present paper deals with certain chemical balance weighing designs. The incidence matrices of BIB designs for v treatments have been used to construct these designs for p = v + 1 objects. Conditions have been obtained for making some of these designs “optimum”. The incidence matrices of BIB designs have been used to construct new optimum chemical balance weighing designs.
