The volume ratios of the mobile and stationary phases in thin layer chromatography, and the partition coefficients of halide and halate anions and some other anions between these phases were obtained by developing the ions simultaneously with a series of metaphosphates. The water contents of the developing solvents influenced the volume ratios very much, but not so much the partition coefficients. The logarithm of the partition coefficient of the halide anions is proportional to the reciprocal of their ionic radius, and that of the halate anions and oxoanions to the partial charge on the oxygens of them.

A number of genes are known to be involved in the production of anthocyanin in maize aleurone. Thin layer chromatography has been used to detect specific flavonoids associated with the recessive forms of these genes. The results obtained so far indicate that the genes C1, C2, R and Pr all act before the formation of flavonol in the biosynthetic pathway, that A1 acts between flavanonol and 'flavenol' and that A2 acts between flavenol and anthocyanidin. Light substitutes for the action of the C1 gene in certain conditions and can be used to 'force' the system, causing a buildup of intermediate and side products beyond the C1 controlled step. The C1 gene probably controls a step between the C9 stage and flavanone.

Phosphoinositides in lymphocytes and machrophages in 20 patients with multiple sclerosis have been studied with the help of highly effective liquid and thin-layer chromatography. In all patients phosphoinositide metabolism inpairment was revealed, which can be caused both by impairment of phosphoinositide response of immunocompetent cells, and by connecting myelin with consequent demyelinization. The revealed fact may serve one of criteria of demyelinizathion process activity, and also evidences the certain role of the revealed impairment in multiple sclerosis pathogenesis.
