This paper introduced gap filling mechanism of wood and inorganic composite and used the mechanism to optimize the wood properties of poplar. Through double diffusion method of the vacuum impregnation, CaCO3 and poplar composite was prepared. Using Sample characterization methods and performance indexes, prepared wood inorganic nanometer composite (WINC) was with hydrophobic and higher hardness.

Abstract In order to investigate the cellular distribution of catalase in normal, hypocatalasic and acatalasic red blood cells, the fluorescent antibody labelling technic was employed. Sensitive anticatalase sera were produced in rabbits by immunization with purified catalase extracted from human erythrocytes. Specificity against human erythrocyte catalase was confirmed by Ouchterlony’s double diffusion method. The distribution of catalase is fairly homogeneous in normal and hypocatalasic red cells, but in acatalasic cells fluorescence due to the presence of catalase was not observed. By this method the amount of catalase in hypocatalasic red cells was judged to be between that of normal and acatalasic red cells.

The results of AFP screening by Ouchterlony double diffusion method and counter current electrophoresis in 343,999 persons for mass survey of primary liver cancer are presented. Through the observation that while AFP was positive, the results of other examinations were largely negative, and the appearance of obvious signs was found later than AFP screening, it is suggested that AFP screening has some significance in early detection of primary liver cancer. In endemic areas of primary liver cancer, repeated AFP screenings are recommended.

Sarcoma-180, a transplantable tumor in Swiss White mice regresses completely after a single intraperitoneal injection of cis-Dichlorodiammineplatinum (II). Fine structural studies before and after cis (Pt (NH3)2C12) treatment show certain morphological changes indicative of possible mechanisms involved in the tumor regression. The mitotic activity of tumor cells is inhibited soon after platinum injection possibly due to its interaction with DNA. Appearance of plasma cells (Fig. 1) and lymphocytes within the tumor mass after a 4-6 days period of platinum treatment indicates a possible enhancement of the immune system. The plasma cells display a well developed RER and a typical nuclear morphology. Further studies on spleen of both treated and control animals show an increase in the number of plasma cells after about 5 days of platinum treatment (Fig. 2).The increase in the lymphocytes and the plasma cells indicates an immune system at the cellular level as these antibody producing cells directly come in contact with the Sarcoma-180 cells. Also the double diffusion method on agar plates indicates the enhanced humoral antibody production against Sarcoma-180 as opposed to the controls.

In this study the formation of calcium phosphate phase via double diffusion method into a hydrogel matrix was investigated and its phase transformation in simulated body fluid was studied. White precipitate was formed within the hydrogel, due to the diffusion of calcium and phosphate ions through the hydrogel matrix in similar pH to human body. Phase composition, microstructure and structural groups in the composite samples were also characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) analyses. Microstructure of precipitates formed within middle hydrogel, showed that detected materials are composed of carbonated hydroxyapatite and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD, brushite). The particle size was about 10 nm .Analysis results showed that after incubation in simulated body fluid, dicalcium phosphate dehydrate phase transformed into crystalline hydroxy apatite.

ABSTRACT The presence of thyroglobulin in intra- and extrathyroidal lymph vessels of TSH-stimulated guinea pigs was demonstrated immunohistochemically. Guinea pig thyroglobulin was purified by gel filtration on Sephadex G-200 and tested by the double diffusion method and by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Antibodies to guinea pig thyroglobulin were obtained in rabbits by immunisation of the animals with this antigen. Indirect fluorescence staining was performed on formol fixed paraffin embedded tissue with rabbit anti-guinea pig thyroglobulin serum in the first step and fluorescein-labelled antirabbit IgG from the goat in the second step of the incubation process.

The successful classification of Group A streptococci by the capillary precipitin technique requires a complete series of M type antisera which are sufficiently potent and specific to give unequivocal type-specific reactions with all the serotypes. Specific antisera for this purpose have been prepared by absorption with heterologous streptococci. Unabsorbed antisera have been employed here in the Ouchterlony double-diffusion agar-gel test to identify the M type of streptococci. Techniques have been developed for making this method of M typing fully reliable. The results reported here confirm and amplify the original findings of Michael and Massell (3). With crude HCl extracts and unabsorbed M type antisera, a precipitin line due to the M protein and another to the group-specific carbohydrate are the two major reactions observed. These reactions, however, are usually readily distinguishable. There was a surprising lack of cross-reactive precipitin lines due to non-type-specific protein antigens in the extracts. Although many of the unabsorbed M type antisera can be employed in the double-diffusion tests, the group-specific antibody must be removed from some of the unabsorbed antisera to avoid confusing cross-reactions. Absorption of these antibodies has been achieved by means of a specific immunoabsorbent column prepared from para-aminophenyl-ß-N-acetylglucosamine and cyanogen bromide-activated Sepharose. Excellent agreement was observed between the M typing results obtained on 117 field strains by the conventional capillary precipitin method and the Ouchterlony double-diffusion method.
