At the 2nd Medicago meeting (a satellite of the 1999 IS-MPMI meeting in Amsterdam), investigators perceived a need for standardization of genetic nomenclature in Medicago truncatula, due to the rapid growth of research on this species in the past few years. Establishment of such standards grew out of discussions begun at this meeting and continued electronically throughout the M. truncatula community. The proposed standards presented here are the consensus results of those discussions. In addition to standards for gene nomenclature, a method for community governance and a website for cataloging gene names and submitting new ones are presented. The purpose of implementing these guidelines is to help maintain consistency in the literature, to avoid redundancy, to contribute to the accuracy of databases, and, in general, to aid the international collaborations that have made M. truncatula a model system for legume biology.

Abstract The genetics of the ciliated protozoa Tetrahymena thermophila and certain species of Paramecium (P. primaurelia and P. tetraurelia) have reached a level of maturity such that rules for genetic nomenclature for micronuclear and macronuclear genetics need to be clarified for workers in the field as well as for other geneticists. Evaluar la diversidad y estructura genética en poblaciones de gatos domésticos (Felis catus) mediante marcadores de pelaje en Lorica, Córdoba. Se realizaron muestreos aleatorios entre los meses de agosto y octubre del año 2014, en 243 animales adultos presentes en nueve barrios de Lorica, donde se caracterizó fenotípicamente cada animal; la nomenclatura utilizada está en concordancia con el Committe Standardized Genetic Nomenclature For Cats (1968), atendiendo a los marcadores autosómicos de codificación morfológica: el locus ligado al sexo Orange (O) y los loci autosómicos Non-agouti (a), Blotched tabby (Tb), Dilution (d), Pelo largo (l) Manchado de blanco (S) y Dominante blanco (W). Los parámetros genéticos poblacionales: frecuencia alélica, diversidad genética, flujo génico, equilibrio Hardy-Weinberg y distancia genética fueron calculados a través del programa PopGene 1.31; la estructura genética se evaluó mediante el programa FSTAT v. 2.9.3.2. El marcador Manchado de blanco fue el de mayor frecuencia mientras el gen Dominante blanco presentó los valores más bajos de las frecuencias alélicas. Se registraron cifras poco significativas de variabilidad genética a nivel global y poblacional, así mismo, se obtuvo una escasa diferenciación genética entre las poblaciones, acompañado de un elevado flujo génico; se observó un exceso de heterocigotos a nivel poblacional y a nivel total, no hubo equilibrio Hardy-Weinberg en todas las poblaciones con relación a los marcadores Orange y Manchado de blanco.
